Plotinus (/plɒˈtaɪnəs/; Greek: Πλωτῖνος, Plōtînos; c. 204/5 – 270 CE) was a philosopher in the Hellenistic tradition, born and raised in Roman Egypt. Plotinus is regarded by modern scholarship as the founder of Neoplatonism. His teacher was the self-taught philosopher Ammonius Saccas, who belonged to the Platonic tradition. Historians of the 19th century invented the term "neoplatonism" and applied it to refer to Plotinus and his philosophy, which was vastly influential during Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance. Much of the biographical information about Plotinus comes from Porphyry's preface to his edition of Plotinus' most notable literary work, The Enneads. In his metaphysical writings, Plotinus described three fundamental principles: the One, the Intellect, and the So

  • Plotino (antzinako grezieraz: Πλωτῖνος, Plotinos; Likopolis, Egipto, K. o. 205 - Campania, K. o. 270) greziar filosofoa izan zen. Alexandrian bizi izan zen, eta filosofoaren ikaslea izan zen. Gordiano III.a enperadorea Mesopotamiara persiarren aurka borrokatzera abiatu zenean, Plotino harekin joan zen persiar eta indiar filosofia ikastera. 244an Erroman hartu zuen bizilekua, eta filosofia-eskola bat zabaldu zuen. Filosofiako saiakerak idatzi zituen, hil ondoren Porfirio haren jarraitzaileak Eneadak izeneko sei liburukitan bildu eta argitara eman zituenak. Neoplatonismoaren sortzailea izan zen. Plotinoren ustez, unibertsoa errealitateen edo hierarkia bat da, izatearen kate handi bat, non gorengo mailan dagoen errealitatea beheragoko mailan dagoen guztiaren kausa den. Mailaketa horretan murrizketa bat gertatzen da; hala, existitzen den guztia bere kausa baino maila beheragoxean dago. Hierarkiaren gorengo mailan jainkozko hiru errealitate dira: Bata (Hen) edo erabateko ontasuna, Adimena (Nous), Bataren azpian dagoena, eta Arima (Psykhe), Adimenetik datorrena eta denbora eta espazioa sortzen dituena. Gero Izadia (Physis) dator, biziaren hastapena. Izadiaren azpian Materia dago. Gizakiak mikrokosmosak dira, beren baitan Materia, Izadia, Arima eta Adimena dutenak. Plotinoren ideiek eragin handia izan zuten Berpizkundean eta Alemaniako idealismoan. (eu)
  • Plotin, en grec ancien : Πλωτῖνος, en latin : Plotinus (205 - 270 apr. (in)
