- The cinema of Romania is the art of motion-picture making within the nation of Romania or by Romanian filmmakers abroad. It has been home to many internationally acclaimed films and directors. As with much of the world's early cinema, the ravages of time have left their mark upon Romanian film prints. Tens of titles have been destroyed or lost for good. From these films, only memories, articles and photos published in the newspapers of the time have remained. Since 1965 Arhiva Națională de Filme (ANF; The National Film Archive) has made serious efforts to reconstruct the obscure history of the beginnings of Romanian cinema, in parallel with the publication of memoirs and private research undertaken by great lovers of cinema, such as film critics Ion Cantacuzino and Tudor Caranfil, together with the directors Jean Mihail and Jean Georgescu. Romanian films have won best short film at Cannes in 2004 and 2008, with Trafic by Cătălin Mitulescu, and by . Romanian cinema achieved prominence in the 2000s with the appearance of such films as The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, directed by Cristi Puiu, (Cannes 2005 Prix un certain regard winner), and 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days, directed by Cristian Mungiu (Cannes 2007 Palme d'Or winner). - El cine de Rumania es el arte de hacer películas cinematográficas dentro de la nación de Rumania o de cineastas rumanos en el extranjero. Como en gran parte de los comienzos del cine en el mundo, los estragos del tiempo han dejado su marca sobre las cintas rumanas de cine. Decenas de títulos han sido destruidos o perdidos y, de estas películas, sólo se mantienen recuerdos, artículos o fotografías publicados en los periódicos de la época. Desde 1965 la Arhiva Naţională de Filme (ANF, la Filmoteca Nacional) ha hecho grandes esfuerzos para reconstruir la historia oscura de los comienzos del cine rumano, en paralelo con la publicación de las memorias e investigaciones privadas realizadas por los grandes amantes del cine, como los críticos de cine Ion Cantacuzino y Tudor Caranfil, junto con los directores Jean Mihail y Jean Georgescu. El cine rumano logró la fama en la década de 2000 con la aparición de películas como , de Cristi Puiu (ganador del galardón Un Certain Regard en Cannes 2005) y 4 meses, 3 semanas y 2 días, dirigida por Cristian Mungiu (ganador de la Palme d'Or en Cannes 2007), todas ellas englobadas en el movimiento cinematográfico denominado Noul val românesc («Nueva ola rumana»). - L’industrie cinématographique roumaine a une longue histoire. Les cinéphiles du monde entier ont entendu parler du cinéma roumain au milieu des années 2000 grâce au succès de ses films en festival (Palme d'or en 2007 pour 4 Mois, 3 semaines, 2 jours) mais c'est encore en 2010 le pays avec le taux de fréquentation le plus faible d’Europe et sa production cinématographique avait presque disparu. La période communiste avait permis à l'industrie cinématographique de se développer de manière relativement importante, bien qu'entièrement sous contrôle mais celle-ci a chuté drastiquement après la fin du régime. La production semble redémarrer depuis le début du millénaire, notamment grâce à des coproductions étrangères et à l'accueil de tournages étrangers. La distribution fait à présent la part belle aux films hollywoodiens et l'apparition de multiplexes a stoppé la chute de la fréquentation. Malgré le récent succès de certaines de ses productions en festivals, il n’y a pas à l’heure actuelle de réelle spécificité roumaine quand on analyse l’évolution de son industrie. (fr)

Od 1965 działa Rumuńskie Narodowe Archiwum Filmowe (Arhiva Națională de Filme), które dba o rekonstruowanie i archiwizację filmów z tego kraju. W 2002 miała miejsce pierwsza edycja Międzynarodowego Festiwalu Filmowego Transilvania. Odbywająca się w Klużu impreza jest pierwszym festiwalem filmów fabularnych, odbywającym się w Rumunii. Od 2007 przyznawane są Nagrody Gopo, wyróżnienia honorujące najwybitniejsze rumuńskie filmy i twórców minionego roku. (pl)
