- These films deal with the Holocaust in Europe, comprising both documentaries and narratives. They began to be produced in the early 1940s before the extent of the Holocaust at that time was widely recognized. The films span a range of genres, with documentary films including footage filmed both by the Germans for propaganda and by the Allies, compilations, survivor accounts and docudramas, and narrative films including war films, action films, love stories, psychological dramas, and even comedies. - La représentation de la Shoah au cinéma constitue une problématique sur la question de la représentation possible de l'extermination des Juifs par l'Allemagne nazie dans les films. Grâce à la production de documentaires, le cinéma - à l'instar de la photographie - a joué un rôle décisif dans la construction du savoir sur la Shoah. C'est, en effet, en grande partie grâce au 7e art que les procès de Nuremberg ont rencontré un large retentissement. Le cinéma, dans les œuvres de reconstitution historique et de fiction, s'est aussi interrogé sur la représentation de l'extermination. (fr)
