- تعود أصول الحرب الباردة لفترة انهيار العلاقات بين الاتحاد السوفيتي من جهة والولايات المتحدة وبريطانيا العظمى وحلفائهم من جهة أخرى في الأعوام 1945 – 1949. سُبقت فترة الحرب الباردة بمواجهات دبلوماسية وعسكرية أحيانًا استمرت لعقود، تلتها مسألة الحدود السياسية في أوروبا الوسطى، والسيطرة غير الديمقراطية على أوروبا الشرقية من قبل الجيش الأحمر السوفيتي، ثم ظهرت القضايا الاقتصادية خاصة تلك المتعلقة بخطة مارشال، ثم أول مواجهة عسكرية كبرى في حصار برلين عام 1948 -1949. رسمت حدود كل معكسر بصرامة بحلول عام 1949، كانت الحرب الباردة على أشدها في أوروبا، أما خارج أوروبا فقد تباينت حدة المواجهة، مع الإشارة للتطور السريع للولايات المتحدة كإمبراطورية عظمى في جنوب شرق آسيا في منتصف الأربعينيات. تعود التوترات القديمة بين الاتحاد السوفيتي والدول الأوروبية والولايات المتحدة للأحداث التي سبقت الحرب العالمية الثانية وحتى الثورة الروسية في عام 1917، أدت سلسلة من الأحداث خلال وبعد الحرب العالمية الثانية إلى تفاقم هذه التوترات، خصوصًا التأجيل المتكرر للغزو الأمريكي البريطاني لأوروبا التي تحتلها ألمانيا، والخلاف حول الديمقراطية في أوروبا الشرقية الذي برز في المؤتمرات التي عقدت بين زعماء الدول العظمى وقت الحرب. - Existe amplio consenso en que los orígenes de la Guerra Fría se encuentran estrecha y directamente ligados con las relaciones entre la Unión Soviética y los aliados (Estados Unidos, Reino Unido y Francia) entre los años 1945 a 1991. Estos eventos condujeron a la Guerra Fría que se extendió durante poco menos de medio siglo. Los eventos que precedieron la Segunda Guerra Mundial, y aún la Revolución rusa de 1917, configuraron tensiones previas a la Segunda Guerra Mundial entre la Unión Soviética, los países del oeste de Europa y los Estados Unidos. - The Cold War originated in the breakdown of relations between the two main victors in World War II: United States and the Soviet Union, and their respective allies, the Western Bloc and the Eastern Bloc, in the years 1945–1949. The origins derive from diplomatic (and occasional military) confrontations stretching back decades, followed by the issue of political boundaries in Central Europe and non-democratic control of the East by the Soviet Army. In the 1940s came economic issues (especially the Marshall Plan) and then the first major military confrontation, with a threat of a hot war, in the Berlin Blockade of 1948–1949. By 1949, the lines were sharply drawn and the Cold War was largely in place in Europe. Outside Europe, the starting points vary, but the conflict centered on the US's development of an informal empire in Southeast Asia in the mid-1940s. Events preceding World War II and even the Communist takeover of Russia in 1917, underlay older tensions between the Soviet Union, European countries and the United States. (en)
