Natural language generation systems convert information from computer databases into readable human language. Natural language understanding systems convert samples of human language into more formal representations such as parse trees or first order logic that are easier for computer programs to manipulate.

  • Natural language processing (NLP) is a field of computer science and linguistics concerned with the interactions between computers and human (natural) languages. Natural language generation systems convert information from computer databases into readable human language. Natural language understanding systems convert samples of human language into more formal representations such as parse trees or first order logic that are easier for computer programs to manipulate. Many problems within NLP apply to both generation and understanding; for example, a computer must be able to model morphology (the structure of words) in order to understand an English sentence, and a model of morphology is also needed for producing a grammatically correct English sentence. NLP has significant overlap with the field of computational linguistics, and is often considered a sub-field of artificial intelligence. The term natural language is used to distinguish human languages (such as Spanish, Swahili or Swedish) from formal or computer languages (such as C++, Java or LISP). Although NLP may encompass both text and speech, work on speech processing has evolved into a separate field.
  • El Processament del llenguatge natural (PLN o NLP del seu nom en anglés, Natural Language Processing) és la disciplina informàtica que s'encarrega de tractar computacionalment les llengües naturals, o llenguatges humans. El PLN va néixer a finals de la dècada dels 40, però els intents de fer traducció automàtica entre anglès i rus (per part els Estats Units, degut a la Guerra Freda) no van tindre èxit ja que s'utilitzaven models lingüístics molt simples, i la potència dels ordinadors era molt escassa. Durant les dècades dels seixanta i setanta, amb objectius més humils, s'aconseguiren importants avenços en la implementació d'interfícies d'accés a dades en llenguatge natural. Ja a partir dels anys vuitanta, gràcies a la potència en augment dels ordinadors, així com en l'adopció de teories lingüístiques més complexes, s'estan aconseguint resultats importants en diverses àrees, com pot ser la traducció automàtica.

  • El Procesamiento de Lenguajes Naturales —abreviado PLN, o NLP del idioma inglés Natural Language Processing— es una subdisciplina de la Inteligencia Artificial y la rama ingenieril de la lingüística computacional. El PLN se ocupa de la formulación e investigación de mecanismos eficaces computacionalmente para la comunicación entre personas o entre personas y máquinas por medio de lenguajes naturales. El PLN no trata de la comunicación por medio de lenguajes naturales de una forma abstracta, sino de diseñar mecanismos para comunicarse que sean eficaces computacionalmente —que se puedan realizar por medio de programas que ejecuten o simulen la comunicación—. Los modelos aplicados se enfocan no sólo a la comprensión del lenguaje de por sí, sino a aspectos generales cognitivos humanos y a la organización de la memoria. El lenguaje natural sirve sólo de medio para estudiar estos fenómenos.

  • 自然言語処理（しぜんげんごしょり、英: language processing, NLP）は、人間が日常的に使っている自然言語をコンピュータに処理させる一連の技術であり、人工知能と言語学の一分野である。「計算言語学 Computational Linguistics」も同じ意味であるが、前者は工学的な視点からの言語処理をさすのに対して、後者は言語学的視点を重視する手法をさす事が多い。データベース内の情報を自然言語に変換したり、自然言語の文章をより形式的な（コンピュータが理解しやすい）表現に変換するといった処理が含まれる。 自然言語の理解をコンピュータにさせることは、自然言語理解とされている。自然言語理解と、自然言語処理の差は、意味を扱うか、扱わないかという説もあったが、最近は数理的な言語解析手法（統計や確率など）が広められた為、パーサ（統語解析器）などが一段と精度や速度が上がり、その意味合いは違ってきている。もともと自然言語の意味論的側面を全く無視して達成できることは非常に限られている。このため、自然言語処理には形態素解析と構文解析、文脈解析、意味解析などをSyntaxなど表層的な観点から解析をする学問であるが、自然言語理解は、意味をどのように理解するかという個々人の理解と推論部分が主な研究の課題になってきており、両者の境界は意思や意図が含まれるかどうかになってきている。

NLP - natural language processing) to interdyscyplinarna dziedzina, łącząca zagadnienia sztucznej inteligencji i lingwistyki, zajmująca się automatyzacją analizy, rozumienia, tłumaczenia i generowania języka naturalnego (ludzkiego) przez komputer. System generujący język naturalny przekształca informacje zapisane w bazie danych komputera na język łatwy do odczytania dla człowieka. NLP pokrywa się również w znacznej mierze z działem lingwistyki komputerowej i często uważany jest za poddział sztucznej inteligencji. Natomiast termin język naturalny używany jest, by odróżnić języki ludzkie od języka formalnego czy komputerowego . Choć NLP mógłby zająć się i tekstem i mową, prace nad syntezą mowy rozwinęły się jako oddzielny dział.
