- The persecution of Jews has been a major event in Jewish history, prompting shifting waves of refugees and the formation of diaspora communities. As early as 605 BCE, Jews who lived in the Neo-Babylonian Empire were persecuted and deported. Antisemitism was also practiced by the governments of many different empires (Roman empire) and the adherents of many different religions (Christianity), and it was also widespread in many different regions of the world (Middle East and Islamic). Jews were commonly used as scapegoats for tragedies and shortcomings such as those which were seen in the Black Death Persecutions, the 1066 Granada Massacre, the Massacre of 1391 in Spain, the many Pogroms in the Russian Empire, and the tenets of Nazism prior to and during World War II, which lead to The Holocaust and the murder of six million Jews. - Jodenvervolging is gecoördineerd geweld tegen en onderdrukking van de Joodse bevolkingsgroep. De bekendste Jodenvervolging is de Holocaust, de systematische vervolging en moord op Joden door de nazi's in Duitsland en bezet Europa voor en tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Deze vervolging begon in 1935 met de instelling van de Neurenbergerwetten. Het verschijnsel Jodenvervolging is echter al veel ouder. In de middeleeuwen kwam het met regelmaat tot gewelddadige uitbarstingen (zogenaamde pogroms), of werd de Joodse bevolking uit een land verdreven. Joden waren over het algemeen uitgesloten van het lidmaatschap van de gilden, waardoor het hun niet was toegestaan ambachtelijke beroepen uit te oefenen. Jodenvervolging in christelijk Europa kwam op gang rond het jaar 1000. Ook het Midden-Oosten kende gruwelijke Jodenvervolgingen.
