- Speed Racer, also known as Mach GoGoGo (Japanese: マッハGoGoGo, Hepburn: Mahha GōGōGō), is a Japanese media franchise about automobile racing. Mach GoGoGo was originally serialized in print in Shueisha's 1966 Shōnen Book. It was released in tankōbon book form by Sun Wide Comics and later re-released in Japan by Fusosha. Adapted into anime by Tatsunoko Productions, its 52 episodes aired on Fuji TV from April 1967 to March 1968. In the US, the show aired in syndication at approximately the same time. The anime was later re-broadcast on Tokyo MX from July 1 to September 25, 2008. Selected chapters of the manga were released by NOW Comics in the 1990s under the title Speed Racer Classics. These were later released by Wildstorm Productions, a division of DC Comics, as Speed Racer: The Original Manga. In 2008, under its Americanized title, Speed Racer, Mach GoGoGo was republished in its entirety in the United States by Digital Manga Publishing and was released as a box set to commemorate the franchise's 40th anniversary, as well as serving as a tie-in with the 2008 film. The television series was very successful in the United States and is said to have defined anime in that country until the 1990s, and it's estimated that the 52 episodes of the anime have been on American television in some form or another for around 30 years; and that over 40 million Americans have been familiar with the Speed Racer brand. Nel 1997 Hiroshi Sasagawa ne fece un remake il cui titolo originale in Giappone era il medesimo di quello della serie originale, mentre il titolo per il mercato anglofono è . Nel 2008 è stato realizzato il film dal vivo Speed Racer, diretto dalle sorelle Wachowski e interpretato tra gli altri da Emile Hirsch e Christina Ricci, basato sulla versione americana dell'anime originale: Speed Racer è infatti il titolo che fu dato all'anime sul mercato statunitense. Cambiamenti minori si verificano tra il manga e la serie animata, con differenze e modifiche in alcune storie narrate e con alcuni racconti posteriori aggiunti riguardanti certi personaggi e luoghi. La storia è incentrata sulle corse automobilistiche e segue le avventure di un giovane ambizioso che aspira a diventare campione del mondo di F1; il personaggio principale è difatti questo ragazzo pilota chiamato Go Mifune. - Speed Racer, conhecido como Mach Go Go Go (マッハGoGoGo Mahha Gō Gō Gō?) no Japão, é uma série de mangá e anime dos anos 1960, criado por Tatsuo Yoshida sobre corridas de automóveis. Speed Racer (nome dado na adaptação norte-americana do anime, que nunca diz o nome original Go Mifune), um jovem e audaz piloto de corrida de 18 anos, dirige o carro Mach 5, criado por seu pai (Pops Racer) e vive diversas aventuras dentro e fora das corridas. O sobrenome Mifune é uma homenagem ao ator japonês Toshiro Mifune, protagonista do filme Os Sete Samurais, que interpretou o piloto Izo Yamura no filme Grand Prix (1966).. O desenho é muito conhecido pela sua canção tema e pela ótima trilha sonora, que tocava ao fundo e tornava ainda mais emocionantes as corridas em que o piloto Speed participava, sempre repletas de acidentes espetaculares e "golpes sujos" dos participantes, tais como seus mais célebres rivais, a "Equipe Acrobática" e o "Carro Mamute". As corridas eram em locais inusitados, como selvas, desertos e até uma realizada dentro de um vulcão. A série chegou aos Estados Unidos ainda em 1967 com o nome de Speed Racer pela empresa Trans-Lux. Na década de 1990, os direitos no Ocidente foram administrados pela Speed Racer Enterprises, Os direitos expiraram em 2011, o que acabou gerando um processo pela Tatsunoko. Em outubro de 2014, a Speed Racer Enterprises foi condenada a pagar uma indenização de 1 milhão de doláres. O filme Speed Racer - Filme foi lançado em 9 de Maio de 2008 um filme em live-action, distribuído pela Warner Bros. e baseado na história original. Ele é dirigido pelas Irmãs Wachowski. (pt)
