- Évoquer les différences théologiques entre l'Église catholique et l'Église orthodoxe suppose d'admettre en premier lieu la pluralité des Églises orthodoxes elles-mêmes. L'Église orthodoxe est constituée d'un certain nombre d'Églises autocéphales qui se reconnaissent mutuellement, à la notable exception de l'Église orthodoxe en Amérique et de l'Église orthodoxe d'Ukraine et de Russie qui ne sont pas unanimement reconnues (ni reconnues par les mêmes Églises). Ici ne seront abordées en détail que les différences entre l'Église orthodoxe et l'Église catholique. La séparation entre les Églises d'Orient et d'Occident est historiquement reliée au schisme de 1054, et surtout au sac de Constantinople en 1204. Depuis, les évolutions respectives ont permis l'apparition de différences liturgiques, dogmatiques et théologiques. Schématiquement, on peut mettre en exergue, d'une part cinq points dogmatiques sur lesquels s'opposent orthodoxes et catholiques, d'autre part plusieurs différences mineures. (fr)
- The Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church have been in a state of official schism from one another, with a few short-lived reunifications (such as after the Council of Florence) since the East–West Schism of 1054. That original schism was exacerbated by historical and language differences, and the ensuing theological differences between the Western and Eastern churches. The main theological differences with the Catholic Church are the papal primacy and the filioque clause. In spirituality, the tenability of neo-Palamism's essence-energy distinction and of the experiential vision of God as attained in theoria and theosis are actively debated. Although the 21st century saw a growth of anti-western sentiments with the rise of neo-Palamism, "the future of East–West rapprochement appears to be overcoming the modern polemics of neo-scholasticism and neo-Palamism". Since the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Church has generally taken the approach that the schism is primarily ecclesiological in nature, that the doctrinal teachings of the Eastern Orthodox churches are generally sound, and that "the vision of the full communion to be sought is that of unity in legitimate diversity" as before the division. * Официальное отношение Римско-Католической церкви к Восточным (Ортодоксальным) церквям, не состоящим с ней в общении, включая поместные православные церкви, выражено в Декрете Второго Ватиканского собора «Unitatis redintegratio»: немалое число общин отделилось от полного общения с Католической Церковью, иногда не без вины людей: и с той, и с другой стороны. Однако тех, кто рождается ныне в таких Общинах и исполняется веры во Христа, нельзя обвинять в грехе разделения, и Католическая Церковь приемлет их с братским уважением и любовью. Ибо те, кто верует во Христа и должным образом принял крещение, находятся в известном общении с Католической Церковью, пусть даже неполном... Тем не менее, оправдавшись верой в крещении, они сочетаются Христу и, следовательно, по праву носят имя христиан, а чада Католической Церкви с полным основанием признают их братьями в Господе.
* Официальное отношение Русской православной церкви к Римско-католической церкви выражено в документе «Основные принципы отношения Русской Православной Церкви к инославию» Диалог с Римско-Католической Церковью строился и должен строиться в будущем с учётом того основополагающего факта, что она является Церковью, в которой сохраняется апостольское преемство рукоположений. В то же время, представляется необходимым принимать во внимание характер развития вероучительных основ и этоса РКЦ, нередко шедшего вразрез с Преданием и духовным опытом Древней Церкви. (ru)
