- Un montículo es una pequeña colina o loma, que suele encontrarse aislado. Puede estar realizado por el hombre o por la naturaleza. Los montículos artificiales se han realizado a lo largo de la Historia con distintos fines y en distintas formas y usando materiales tales como arena, grava, roca, etc. Los creados con rocas suelen recibir el nombre de cairns y los recubiertos de tierra túmulos. Los usos que se le han dado, han sido entre otros:
* funerarios;
* militares;
* religiosos;
* vigilancia;

Le plus souvent, les buttes sont des formations artificielles de terre à l'image des collines et des montagnes. L’expression « butte » se trouve incluse dans différents toponymes, butte Montmartre, buttes Chaumont à Paris ou encore la butte Chaumont, une des collines les plus élevées de Normandie. Il s’agit dans ce cas de trois toponymes pléonastiques. En anglais butte désigne une colline isolée à parois abruptes, en Amérique du Nord, avec un petit sommet plat. Le mot est issu du français. Par ailleurs « butte » se traduit en anglais par les expressions hillock, knoll ou mound. (fr)

- Kopiec – antropogeniczna forma ukształtowania powierzchni ziemi, budowla ziemna w kształcie stożka (zazwyczaj ściętego). Na terenie Europy kopce, różnej wielkości i konstrukcji, były wznoszone już w czasach prehistorycznych. Pełniły wówczas rolę miejsc pochówku, a także funkcje kultowe, obronne, obserwacyjne. W znacznej części przypadków ich rola jest nieznana. W późniejszych wiekach kopce wznoszono jako pamiątki ważnych wydarzeń historycznych lub w celu pośmiertnego upamiętnienia godnych osób, niewielkie kopce oznaczały np. granice ziem czy wsi. W związku ze znacznymi kosztami budowy i problemami z zapewnieniem trwałości budowli (erozja, spełzywanie zboczy itp.) obecnie nie buduje się kopców. (pl)
