- La Selecció de rugbi d'Espanya representa Espanya a les competicions oficials. És gestionada per la Federació Espanyola de Rugbi. Actualment es troba a la Segona Divisió de la classificació mundial de l'IRB, i acaba de pujar a la Tercera Divisió; ocupa el 22è lloc en el rànquing global, per davant de Namíbia i Corea del Sud. La seva fita més remarcable fins ara fou classificar-se per a la Copa del Món de Rugbi el 1999. A nivell continental milita a la Divisió 1A de la , la més alta del torneig, on la fita més remarcabla fou un segon lloc al campionat de l'edició 2010-12, dividida en dos certamens, un per any, a causa de les noves regulacions del torneig. - Die spanische Rugby-Union-Nationalmannschaft (spanisch Selección nacional de rugby de España) ist die Nationalmannschaft Spaniens in der Sportart Rugby Union und repräsentiert das Land bei allen Länderspielen (Test Matches) der Männer. Die Mannschaft trägt den Spitznamen Los Leones („die Löwen“). Die organisatorische Verantwortung trägt der 1923 gegründete Verband Federación Española de Rugby (FER). Vom Weltverband World Rugby wird die spanische Nationalmannschaft in die zweite Stärkeklasse (second tier) eingeteilt. Damit gehört sie zu den stärkeren europäischen Teams außerhalb der Six Nations. Das erste Test Match fand 1929 gegen Italien statt. Spanien nahm bisher an einer Weltmeisterschaft teil, 1999 kam man jedoch nicht über die Gruppenphase hinaus. Die Mannschaft errang bei Europameisterschaften bisher keinen Titel und klassierte sich vier Mal auf dem zweiten sowie sechs Mal auf dem dritten Platz. Tras la marcha del director técnico Bryce Bevin, el 1 de junio de 2013, y después de muchas especulaciones, Santiago Santos se convirtió en el actual seleccionador absoluto. Actualmente, se encuentra en el Tier 2 de la clasificación mundial de la World Rugby. The national side is ranked 15th in the world (as of 4 August 2022). Rugby union in Spain dates back to 1901, although Spain did not play its first international until 1929, beating Italy 9–0 in Barcelona. Throughout the century, Spain mostly played against other European opponents such as France, Italy, Romania, West Germany, the Soviet Union, and Portugal. The team's greatest moment of success came in 1999, when Spain qualified for the 1999 Rugby World Cup. Despite being whitewashed, the team performed admirably in a group which included South Africa and Scotland. Today, Spain competes in the European Nations Cup against Georgia, Germany, Portugal, Romania, and Russia. Spain has never been crowned European champions, though has come close. The closest they've come to becoming European champions was in 2012, having beaten both Romania and Georgia and finishing second. Many players have moved abroad to play professionally in France, in hopes of qualifying for the 2019 or possibly expanded 2023 editions of the World Cup. (en)
