- Das Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (oft inoffiziell abgekürzt mit „OAE“) ist ein 1986 gegründetes britisches Orchester. Sein Name verweist auf das Zeitalter der Aufklärung (englisch Age of Enlightenment); die Musik dieser Zeit bildet den Repertoireschwerpunkt des Orchesters, dessen Mitglieder auf historischen Instrumenten musizieren. Sitz des Orchesters ist das in London. Das Orchester verfügt über keinen permanenten musikalischen Leiter, sondern wird von einer gewählten künstlerischen Gruppe geleitet. Als Principal Artists fungieren derzeit (Stand 2014) Simon Rattle, Wladimir Jurowski, Iván Fischer und Mark Elder. Zu seinen weiteren Gastdirigenten zählten bzw. zählen Charles Mackerras, Philippe Herreweghe, Gustav Leonhardt, René Jacobs, Roger Norrington, Frans Brüggen, Ton Koopman, Marin Alsop, Sigiswald Kuijken, Ivor Bolton, Monica Huggett, Rachel Podger und Bruno Weil. Tourneen führten das OAE durch zahlreiche Länder, so 2002 nach Südamerika und in die USA sowie 2003 nach Südostasien. Die Diskografie des OAE umfasst über 50 Aufnahmen, unter anderem mit Werken von Henry Purcell, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Georg Friedrich Händel, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart oder Joseph Haydn. Von einer Öffnung des Repertoires hin zur Romantik und Spätromantik zeugen aber auch Einspielungen mit Werken von Franz Schubert, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy oder Gustav Mahler. Das Orchester arbeitet auch im pädagogischen Bereich, konzertiert insbesondere im Raum London in Schulen und betreut Projekte, die der Heranführung von Kindern an das Instrumentalspiel dienen. (de)

- The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) is a British period instrument orchestra. The OAE is a resident orchestra of the Southbank Centre, London, associate orchestra at Glyndebourne Festival Opera Artistic Associate at Kings Place, and has its headquarters at Acland Burghley School. The leadership is rotated between four musicians: Matthew Truscott, Kati Debretzeni, Huw Daniel and Margaret Faultless. A group of period instrumentalist players formed the OAE as a self-governing ensemble in 1986, and took its name from the historical period in the late 18th century where the core of its repertoire is based. The OAE does not have a principal conductor, but chooses conductors individually. Having no permanent music director gives the orchestra flexibility to work with some of the world’s greatest conductors and soloists across a wide range of music. The current Principal Artists are Sir Simon Rattle, Vladimir Jurowski, Iván Fischer, John Butt, Sir Mark Elder and András Schiff. Sir Roger Norrington and William Christie are Emeritus Conductors, as were the late Frans Brüggen and Sir Charles Mackerras. Other conductors to have worked with the OAE at its invitation include Marin Alsop, Anu Tali, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Sian Edwards, Edward Gardner, Suzi Digby, Robin Ticciati, Joanna Tomlinson, Philippe Herreweghe, Gustav Leonhardt, René Jacobs, Harry Bicket, Christopher Hogwood, Sigiswald Kuijken, Ivor Bolton, Monica Huggett, and Bruno Weil. was instrumental in establishing the OAE, securing crucial private funding for its inaugural work and serving on the Board for many years.
