- مالفرن (بالإنجليزية: Malvern) هي بلدة وأبرشية مدنيَّة إنجليزيَّة تشتهر بينابيعها المعدنيَّة. تقع ضمن مقاطعة ورشستر ممتدةً على سفح تلال مالفرن المُصنَّفة ضمن المناطق ذات الجمال الطبيعيّ الأخَّاذ. تندرج منطقة مالفرن الكبرى الواقعة وسط البلدة تحت مظلَّة مناطق الحفظ التاريخيَّة. شهِدت تلك المنطقة بالذات نموًا كبيرًا خلال العصر الفكتوريّ بسبب غِنى المناطق المجاورة لها بينابيع المياه المعدنيَّة ومن بينها نبع مالفرن. بلغَ تعداد سكان مالفرن 29,626 نسمة بحسب تعداد عام 2011. تتبع للبلدة منطقة مالفرن الكبرى على الجانب الشرقيّ المُنحدِر من تلال مالفرن، بالإضافة إلى مقاطعة مالفرن لينك الحضريَّة السابقة المُستقلة. تفصل مناطق شاسعة من الأراضي والحقول المشتركة بين العديد من الضواحي والمستوطنات الكبرى التي تتألَّف منها البلدة. غالبًا ما يُطلق اسم المالفرنز على المنطقة بأكملها التي تضم كذلك الأبرشيات المدنيَّة الأصغر المجاورة لحدود المدينة وتلال مالفرن. تُشير الأدلة الأثريَّة المُكتشفة إلى استقرار البشر في المنطقة خلال العصر البرونزيّ نحو عام 1000ق.م، ولكن من غير المعروف ما إذا كانت تلك المستوطنات دائمة أم مؤقَّتة. يعود تاريخ تأسيس البلدة إلى القرن الحادي العشر حينما بادرت مجموعة من الرهبان البندكتيين إلى إنشاء دير على سفح أعلى قمم تلال مالفرن. شهِدت البلدة تطوّرًا مُتسارع الخطى إبَّان القرن التاسع عشر بعدما أضحت مقصدًا للكثيرين ممن ابتغوا التعالج بمياه ينابيعها حيث تبدَّلت أحوالها وتحوَّلت من قرية صغيرة إلى مجمعٍ حضريّ مترامي الأطراف. انتقلَ تركيز البلدة إلى القطاع التعليميّ بعيد تراجع السياحة الاستجماميَّة في المنطقة مع حلول أواخر القرن التاسع عشر حيث أُنشِأت فيها عدَّة مدارس داخليَّة خاصَّة في فيلات كبيرة ومبانٍ لفنادق سابقة. توسَّعت البلدة مرَّة أخرى عقِب انتقال شركة مؤسَّسة بحوث الاتصالات إليها في عام 1942. ما تزال شركة كنيتيك (التي خلِفت مؤسَّسة البحوث) الجهة الأكثر توظيفًا في البلدة حتَّى يومنا هذا. تعدّ مالفرن أكبر تجمُّع سكنيُ في دائرة ورشستر الغربيَّة البرلمانيَّة ومقاطعة تلال مالفرن، وهو ما جعلها المركز الإداريّ للمقاطعة سالِفة الذكر. وهي تمتد بجوار منطقة تلال مالفرن المُصنَّفة ضمن المناطق ذات الجمال الطبيعيّ الأخَّاذ. يتولّى مجلس بلدة مالفرن من مكاتبه في مالفرن الكبرى الشؤون الإداريَّة الخاصَّة بالأبرشية المدنيَّة. - Malvern is a spa town and civil parish in Worcestershire, England. It lies at the foot of the Malvern Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The centre of Malvern, Great Malvern, is a historic conservation area, which grew dramatically in Victorian times due to the natural mineral water springs in the vicinity, including Malvern Water. At the 2011 census it had a population of 29,626. It includes Great Malvern on the steep eastern flank of the Malvern Hills, as well as the former independent urban district of Malvern Link. Many of the major suburbs and settlements that comprise the town are separated by large tracts of open common land and fields, and together with smaller civil parishes adjoining the town's boundaries and the hills, the built up area is often referred to collectively as The Malverns. Archaeological evidence suggests that Bronze Age people had settled in the area around 1000 BC, although it is not known whether these settlements were permanent or temporary. The town itself was founded in the 11th century when Benedictine monks established a priory at the foot of the highest peak of Malvern Hills. During the 19th century Malvern developed rapidly from a village to a sprawling conurbation owing to its popularity as a hydrotherapy spa based on its spring waters. Immediately following the decline of spa tourism towards the end of the 19th century, the town's focus shifted to education with the establishment of several private boarding schools in former hotels and large villas. A further major expansion was the result of the relocation of the Telecommunications Research Establishment (TRE) to Malvern in 1942. QinetiQ, TRE's successor company, remained the town's largest local employer in 2009. Malvern is the largest place in the parliamentary constituency of West Worcestershire and the district of Malvern Hills, being also the district's administrative seat. It lies adjacent to the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The civil parish is governed by Malvern Town Council from its offices in Great Malvern. Malvern is the source of the name of the Incorporated Village of Malverne, in the County of Nassau, on Long Island, in New York, in the United States of America. (en)
