El género se inaugura en 1871 con La Batalla de Dorking, que narra una ficticia invasión de Inglaterra por Alemania. Este cuento se hizo muy popular e inició un género que trata sobre invasiones hipotéticas por poderes extranjeros. The invasion novel first was recognized as a literary genre in the UK, with the novella The Battle of Dorking: Reminiscences of a Volunteer (1871), an account of a German invasion of England, which, in the Western world, aroused the national imaginations and anxieties about hypothetical invasions by foreign powers; by 1914 the genre of invasion literature comprised more than 400 novels and stories. The genre was influential in Britain in shaping politics, national policies, and popular perceptions in the years leading up to the First World War, and remains a part of popular culture to this day. Several of the books were written by or ghostwritten for military officers and experts of the day who believed that the nation would be saved if the particular tactic that they favoured was or would be adopted. - Invasieliteratuur (of de invasieroman) is een literair genre dat vooral veel voorkwam in verhalen geschreven tussen 1871 en de Eerste Wereldoorlog. Het genre dook voor het eerst op in het Verenigd Koninkrijk in het verhaal , een fictief verslag van een invasie in Engeland door Duitsland. Dit verhaal was zo populair, dat er al snel veel soortgelijke verhalen volgden. Alle verhalen uit de invasieliteratuur gaan over hoe een land (vaak het land waar het boek wordt gepubliceerd) wordt aangevallen door een vijand die groter en sterker is. Het genre speelde vooral in op de toenemende spanningen tussen vooral Europese landen in de dagen voor de Eerste Wereldoorlog. In totaal zijn er meer dan 400 boeken over dit genre verschenen. Veel van deze boeken zijn vandaag de dag niet meer in omloop. (nl)
