Alfred E. Green (July 11, 1889 in Perris, California – September 4, 1960 in Hollywood, California) was a prolific movie director and assistant director. Green entered film in 1912 as an actor for the Selig Polyscope Co.. He became an assistant to director Colin Campbell. He then started to direct two-reelers until he started features in 1917. Although his career lasted until the 1950s, Green directed number of movies with major stars such as Mary Pickford, Wallace Reid, and Colleen Moore. In 1936, Green directed the movie, Dangerous, with Bette Davis having the starring role. As a result, Davis won Best Actress for her performance. It was followed by Green's next success, The Jolson Story. However,The Jolson Story was followed by a string of B-movies. After retiring from motion pictures, he directed several TV episodes.He was married to silent film actress Vivian Reed.
