- Die Mond-Trilogie von Edgar Rice Burroughs gehört zu den bekannteren Science-Fiction-Romanen des Tarzan-Autors. Burroughs schildert in den Romanen The Moon Maid (dt. Das Mond-Mädchen), The Moon Men (dt. Die Mondmänner) und The Red Hawk (dt. Der rote Falke) die Geschichte einer Raumexpedition im 21. Jahrhundert, die unter der Mondoberfläche auf die kriegerische und sehr aggressive Rasse der Kalkars stößt. Die Entstehungsgeschichte der Mond-Trilogie beginnt zum Jahreswechsel 1918/1919, als Burroughs unter dem Eindruck der Oktoberrevolution in Russland die Geschichte Under the Red Flag schrieb. Darin drückte er seine tiefe Abneigung gegen den russischen Kommunismus aus. 1922 griff er die Idee erneut auf und schrieb den ersten seiner Mondbände, in dem er den grausamen Überfall der Kalkars, ein Synonym für die Bolschewiki, schildert, die ein unmenschliches kommunistisches Regime errichten. 1923 erschien die erste Geschichte in Fortsetzungen im -Magazin. 1926 erschien die erste Buchausgabe. - The Moon Maid is a fantasy novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs. It was written in three parts, Part 1 was begun in June 1922 under the title The Moon Maid, Part 2 was begun in 1919 under the title Under the Red Flag, later retitled The Moon Men, Part 3 was titled The Red Hawk. As evident from its name, Under the Red Flag, it appears to have been originally set in contemporary Soviet Russia, with the Bolsheviks as villains (when it was actually set in a future America, but under Marxist Soviet rule, the center of the story being in a future Marxist Chicago); as this was not popular with the publishers, Burroughs transferred it to a science-fictional setting, with the evil Communist-like "Kalkars" taking over the Moon (in the first part) and then the Earth (in the second part, with the help of a renegade Earthman) and being finally overthrown in the third part. The book version was first published by A. C. McClurg on February 6, 1926, under the title The Moon Maid, though it was shortened from the serial. The three parts have been published in varying combinations and under varying titles since 1926. (en)

- Il popolo della Luna (The Moon Maid) è un romanzo di fantascienza in tre parti dello scrittore statunitense Edgar Rice Burroughs, pubblicato originariamente tra il 1923 e il 1925 a puntate sulla rivista pulp Argosy All-Story Weekly e nel 1926 in volume (in versione ridotta). La storia rientra nei filoni avventurosi del mondo perduto e del planetary romance. Il romanzo è stato pubblicato in italiano nel 1997. Le tre parti che formano il romanzo sono: 1.
* La fanciulla lunare (The Moon Maid, 1923; traduzione italiana di Rita Botter Pierangeli) 2.
* Gli uomini della Luna (The Moon Men, 1925; traduzione di Gianluigi Zuddas) 3.
* Il falco rosso (The Red Hawk, 1925; traduzione di Gianluigi Zuddas) La prima parte fu iniziata nel giugno del 1922 con il titolo The Moon Maid, la seconda nel 1919 con il titolo Under the Red Flag, poi rititolata The Moon Men, mentre la terza venne intitolata The Red Hawk. Come risulta evidente dal titolo, Under the Red Flag (sotto la bandiera rossa) era originariamente ambientata nella Russia sovietica del tempo, con i bolscevichi come cattivi, ma dal momento che non fu popolare tra gli editori Burroughs la convertì in un'ambientazione fantascientifica, con il cattivo Kalkars simil-comunista che assume il potere sulla Luna (nella prima parte) e poi sulla Terra (nella seconda parte, con l'aiuto di un terrestre rinnegato), per essere infine rovesciato nella terza parte.
