V roce 1993 změnili své jméno na Babble, aby odrážely jejich změnu v hudbě od nové vlny až po dobové uklidnění. Kapela byla pojmenována podle dvou obtěžujících detektivů Thomsona a Thompsona v Hergéově komiksu Adventures of Tintin. V různých fázích měla skupina až sedm členů, ale jejich nejznámější inkarnace byla jako trio mezi lety 1982 a 1986. - Thompson Twins were a British pop band formed in 1977 in Sheffield. Initially a new wave group, they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity during the mid-1980s, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world. In 1993, they changed their name to Babble, to reflect their change in music from pop to dub-influenced chill-out. They continued as Babble until 1996, at which point the group permanently broke up. The band's name was based on the two bumbling detectives Thomson and Thompson (who are not twins) in the English language version of Hergé's comic strip The Adventures of Tintin. At various stages they had up to seven members, but their best known line-up was as a trio between 1982 and 1986. The band became a prominent act in the US during the Second British Invasion, and in 1985 performed at Live Aid in Philadelphia, where they were joined onstage by Madonna. (en)

- Thompson Twins was een Britse popgroep. De groep werd opgericht in april 1977 en ontbonden in mei 1993. De samenstelling van de groep is gedurende deze jaren steeds weer uitgebreid en veranderd, maar de constante leden waren zanger Tom Bailey en toetseniste Alannah Currie. De muziek van de groep was sterk gericht op synthesizers. De Thompson Twins ontleenden hun naam aan Jansen en Janssen, twee stripfiguren uit de Kuifje-reeks, de twee detectives die in het Engels Thomson & Thompson heten. Overigens heeft de groep altijd uit meer dan twee personen bestaan. Thompson Twins raakte wereldwijd bekend door hun optreden in het JFK Stadion in Philadelphia tijdens Live Aid op 13 juli 1985. Ze voerden tijdens dit benefietconcert het nummer Revolution uit samen met Madonna. Verder heeft de groep vele hits gescoord in de Verenigde Staten, Groot-Brittannië en Japan, in Nederland is de groep redelijk succesvol geweest met diverse noteringen zoals Love On Your Side, In The Name Of Love, Doctor!
