The competition features four teams of the Bundesliga, playing two semi-finals and a final. Up until 2015, a match lasted 60 minutes, with each half 30 minutes long. Odbywa się podczas przerwy międzysezonowej, tuż przed rozpoczęciem sezonu Bundesligi, z udziałem czterech niemieckich zespołów w systemie pucharowym. Dotychczas rozegrano 10 edycji – trzykrotnie w Mönchengladbach, dwukrotnie w Gelsenkirchen, Hamburgu i Düsseldorfie oraz raz w Moguncji. Telekom Cup jest turniejem podobnym do (organizowanego w latach 1986–1996) oraz do Pucharu Ligi (organizowanego w latach 1997–2007) i uznawany za ich nieoficjalną kontynuację.
