- Die Sonate Nr. 1 d-Moll op 28 ist eine zwischen 1907 und 1908 komponierte Klaviersonate des russischen Pianisten und Komponisten Sergei Rachmaninow. Sie wurde am 17. Oktober 1908 in Moskau von seinem Freund Konstantin Nikolajewitsch Igumnow uraufgeführt. Neben der zweiten Sinfonie ist sie das zweite große Werk, das während Rachmaninows Zeit in Dresden entstand und von dem Skizzen bis ins Jahr 1906 zurückreichen.Die vergleichsweise lange Komposition steht im Schatten der wesentlich bekannteren zweiten Klaviersonate b-Moll op. 36 und hat mit dem Bezug auf die Faust-Tragödie Johann Wolfgang von Goethes ein musikalisches Programm. - La Sonate pour piano no 1 en ré mineur, opus 28 de Sergei Rachmaninov a été écrite à Dresde entre novembre 1907 et mai 1908. Elle est contemporaine de sa seconde symphonie. Elle est inspirée du Faust de Goethe et s'apparente aux symphonies à programme sur le modèle de la Faust Symphonie de Franz Liszt. Chaque mouvement représente l'un des personnages de l'intrigue : Faust, Marguerite et Méphistophélès. La création eut lieu au conservatoire de Moscou le 17 octobre 1908 par le pianiste Constantin Igoumnov, ce qui n'est pas habituel, le compositeur ayant l'habitude de jouer ses propres œuvres. Rachmaninov pensait à la transcrire pour orchestre sous forme de symphonie, mais il renonça à ce projet. De fait, l'œuvre, très complexe et dense, offre une multitude d'affects et contrastes pianistiques. Elle comporte trois mouvements et son exécution demande environ 40 minutes :

- Piano Sonata No. 1 in D minor, Op. 28, is a piano sonata by Sergei Rachmaninoff, completed in 1908. It is the first of three "Dresden pieces", along with the Symphony No. 2 and part of an opera, which were composed in the quiet city of Dresden, Germany. It was originally inspired by Goethe's tragic play Faust; although Rachmaninoff abandoned the idea soon after beginning composition, traces of this influence can still be found. After numerous revisions and substantial cuts made at the advice of his colleagues, he completed it on April 11, 1908. Konstantin Igumnov gave the premiere in Moscow on October 17, 1908. It received a lukewarm response there, and remains one of the least performed of Rachmaninoff's works. It has three movements, and takes about 35 minutes to perform. The sonata is structured like a typical Classical sonata, with fast movements surrounding a slower, more tender second movement. The movements feature sprawling themes and ambitious climaxes within their own structure, all the while building towards a prodigious culmination. Although this first sonata is a substantial and comprehensive work, its successor, Piano Sonata No. 2 (Op. 36), written five years later, became the better regarded of the two. Nonetheless, it, too, was given serious cuts and opinions are mixed about those. (en)
