The Jaguar XJ-S (later the Jaguar XJS) was a luxury grand tourer produced by the British manufacturer Jaguar. The XJ-S replaced the legendary E-Type (or XK-E) in September 1975, and was based on the XJ saloon. It had been developed as the XK-F, though it was very different in character from its predecessor. Although it never had quite the same sporting image, the XJ-S was a competent grand tourer, and more aerodynamic than the E-Type.

- Der Jaguar XJ-S bzw. XJS war ein sportliches Modell (genauer: ein Grand Tourer) des traditionsreichen britischen Autoherstellers Jaguar. Er wurde in den zwanzig Jahren seiner Produktion von 1976 bis 1996 in 119.268 Exemplaren gebaut und war damit das bislang erfolgreichste Jaguar-Sportmodell.
Mit dem letzten Jaguar E-Type, der 1974 hergestellt wurde, gab Jaguar den Markt für Roadster-Sportwagen, für die gerade die englischen Autoindustrie mit Marken wie Jaguar, Triumph und MG bekannt war, auf. Neue gesetzliche Rahmenbedingungen, insbesondere in den USA, veranlassten Jaguar, die Entwicklung eines komfortablen Coupés gegenüber einem Roadster zu favorisieren. Die Linienführung des auf der Basis der XJ Limousine entwickelten und mit dem V12 Motor aus der E-Type Serie III versehenen XJ-S war seinerzeit eher umstritten. Es dauerte eine gewisse Zeit, bis der XJ-S aus dem Schatten seines Ahnen, dem Jaguar E-Type, herausgefahren und als eigenständige, eigenwillige, ja avantgardistische Design-Kreation anerkannt und geschätzt wurde. La XJ-S era basata sulla meccanica della berlina XJ. Venne sviluppata come XK-F ma, dal punto di vista delle caratteristiche, era completamente diversa dalla vettura che andava a sostituire. La XJ-S non riuscì mai a replicare l'immagine sportiva che la E-Type aveva nonostante si rivelasse una vettura da gran turismo ottima e molto più aerodinamica di quest'ultima.
