- El casquet o la beca és una família de lligadures, àmplia i diversa, que tenen en comú la forma arrodonida, l'escassa elevació i l'absència d'ales i de visera. Dit altrament, el casquet és com una gorra, però sense visera, o bé com un barret, però sense ala. El català casquet equival a l'occità bonet; a l'espanyol gorro; al francès bonnet; a l'italià cuffia; al portuguès gorro i barrete; al romanès bonetă; a l'anglès bonnet i (en part) cap; a l'alemany Haube; al rus txepets (чепец) i xapka (шапка); etc. Exemples típics de casquets d'ús civil són:
* el (o, impròpiament, "gorra de punt"), d'ús sobretot femení i infantil, de forma semiesfèrica.
* el casquet de pell, peça d'abrigar de països molt freds, d'ús unisex i normalment de forma circular. És tradicional en nombrosos països, de l'Europa Oriental a Corea, i durant el segle xx ha anat introduint-se a l'Europa Occidental i a Amèrica (vegeu-ne la versió militar, més avall).
* la de la judicatura. Als anys cinquanta i a la primeria dels anys 1960 fou moda una adaptació civil del casquet circular com a lligadura formal femenina; socialment es considerava una mena de barret. (ca)

- Bonnet has been used as the name for a wide variety of headgear for both sexes—more often female—from the Middle Ages to the present. As with "hat" and "cap", it is impossible to generalize as to the styles for which the word has been used, but there is for both sexes a tendency to use the word for pop styles in soft material and lacking a brim, or at least one all the way round, rather than just at the front. Yet the term has also been used, for example, for steel helmets. This was from Scotland (in 1505), where the term has long been especially popular. Headgear tied under the chin with a string was especially likely to be called a bonnet. Other features associated with bonnets as opposed to hats was that the forehead was not covered, and the back of the head often was. The outdoor headgear of female servants and workers was more likely to be called a bonnet. It was often worn outside over a thinner everyday head covering, which was worn at all times. In summary, hats were often stiffer, worn on the top of the head with the crown and brim roughly horizontal, while bonnets were pushed back, covering the back of the head, with any brim often approaching the vertical at the front. Other types of bonnet might otherwise be called "caps", for example the Scottish blue bonnet worn by working-class men and women, a kind of large floppy beret. Bonnet derives from the same word in French, where it originally indicated a type of material. From the 18th century bonnet forms of headgear, previously mostly only worn by elite women in informal contexts at home, became adopted by high fashion, and until at least the late 19th century, bonnet was the dominant term used for female hats. In the 21st century, only a few kinds of headgear are still called bonnets, most commonly those worn by babies and Scottish soldiers. In addition, types of headgear called bonnets are worn by women as an outer Christian headcovering in some denominations such as the Amish, Mennonite and Brethren churches among the Anabaptist branch of Christianity, and with Conservative Quakers, mainly in the Americas. - Gorro é um subtipo do chapéu árabe ou Barreto. Possui um formato arredondado, sem abas, que cobre as orelhas e é utilizado por homens e mulheres, idosos ou crianças, principalmente para a proteção contra o frio. Por norma, é feito de malha, tanto industrializada quanto tecida manualmente (através de técnicas como o tricô ou o crochê). Existem diversas variações nos tipos de gorro: uns podem ser amarrados por debaixo do queixo, chamados balaclavas, outros, cobrem completamente o rosto e o pescoço, deixando descobertos apenas os olhos e, às vezes, a boca. Este último modelo é utilizado, principalmente, por militares, agentes de polícia, alpinistas, esquiadores, motociclistas e também por criminosos. Nos países em que o frio é muito intenso, os gorros podem ser feitos de outros materiais, como o couro, e são forrados com diferentes peles. Destaca-se ainda a diferença entre o gorro e o quipá. Apesar de partilharem algumas semelhanças, o quipá é a peça de vestuário utilizada por judeus, tanto como símbolo de identificação cultural como sinal de temor a Deus. (pt)
