Elle a débuté en 2002 avec Sly Raccoon. En 2005, trois épisodes ont été commercialisés sur PlayStation 2. D'abord sous-entendu dans les bonus de la compilation The Sly Trilogy, puis confirmé lors de la conférence de Sony à l'E3 2011, un quatrième opus nommé Sly Cooper : Voleurs à travers le temps est sorti le 5 février 2013 en Amérique du Nord et le 27 mars 2013 en Europe sur PlayStation 3 et PlayStation Vita. Le joueur dirige principalement Sly Cooper, un raton laveur cambrioleur et ses coéquipiers Bentley (tortue) ainsi que Murray (hippopotame). Les jeux mélangent jeu de plate-forme, jeu d'action et jeu d'infiltration avec des graphismes en cel-shading. Bien que l'ambiance soit souvent tendue à cause de la dextérité requise, le scénario contient de nombreuses scènes humoristiques. En janvier 2014, une adaptation en film d'animation du premier volet de la série est annoncée pour 2016. Toutefois, l'échec critique et commercial total de sly cooper le film semble avoir stoppé net la production du film. The first three games were remastered into high-definition for the PlayStation 3 by Sanzaru Games, titled The Sly Collection. Sanzaru released the fourth game in the series, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, on February 5, 2013. A CGI animated feature film based on the Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is in development with currently an unknown theatrical release date. A television show based on the series was scheduled to premiere in October 2019, but has not yet aired. The series follows the adventures of Sly Cooper, an anthropomorphic raccoon and master thief, along with his two partners in crime, Bentley the turtle and Murray the hippopotamus, all of whom are pursued by Sly's love interest, Inspector Carmelita Fox. The series has spawned two comic books and a variety of spin-off games, including Bentley's Hackpack by Sanzaru Games. Sly Cooper himself has become one of the most popular of the Sony video game characters, and has appeared in other Sony games such as cross-overs PlayStation Move Heroes and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.
