From April 24 to August 30, 1916 Wild and his crew waited on Elephant Island, surviving on a diet of seal, penguin and seaweed. They were finally rescued by Shackleton aboard the Chilean ship Yelcho. Point Wild on Elephant Island is named after Frank Wild, with a monument dedicated to the Chilean captain Luis Pardo who rescued him and his men. (en)

Desempeñó un papel muy significativo en varias de las más importantes expediciones antárticas. Iba a bordo del Discovery cuando este partió rumbó al sur en 1901, iniciando así un periodo de 20 años de exploración y aventuras épicas. August 1939 in Johannesburg/Südafrika) war ein britischer Polarforscher.Er nahm von 1901 bis 1904 an der Discovery-Expedition zum Südpol unter Robert Falcon Scott teil . Von 1907 bis 1909 war er Mitglied der Nimrod-Expedition zum Südpol unter Shackleton. Anfangs hatten beide nicht das beste Verhältnis zueinander, auf der Rücktour wurde Wild aber sein bester Freund und wichtigster Helfer. Von 1914 bis 1916 gehörte er auch zur Endurance-Expedition erneut unter Shackleton . Nachdem sich Shackleton auf die Suche nach Rettung machte, wurde Wild zum Kommandanten der Zurückgeblieben auf Elephant Island ernannt. Anschließend diente er zusammen mit Shackleton im 1. Weltkrieg in Russland. Von 1921 bis 1922 war er auch Mitglied der Shackleton-Rowitt- bzw. Quest-Expedition, die aber nicht beendet wurde, nachdem Ernest Shackleton starb. Wild starb in großer Armut.
