- Huberht Taylor Hudson (17 September 1886 – 15 June 1942), commonly known as Hubert Hudson instead of by his actual first name (an Old English version of the name), was a navigating officer in the British Royal Navy, who took part in Ernest Shackleton's Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition to Antarctica. Hudson joined the expedition whilst a 'mate' in the Royal Navy. He earned the nickname of 'Buddha', when the rest of the crew successfully tricked him into dressing-up in little more than a bedsheet for a 'fancy dress' party on the whaling station at South Georgia. Hudson was described as a "young dandy" who was somewhat self-centered and a poor listener, "simple and a little irritating....a little impressed with his own good looks, but really not too sure of himself." During the expedition, Hudson was famed for his ability to catch penguins, which the crew used as a source of food whilst trapped on the ice. Hudson would be put in charge of steering the tiller of one of the lifeboats, the Stancomb Wills, once the crew escaped from the pack ice, eventually landing on Elephant Island. Towards the end of the expedition, Hudson suffered a severe breakdown of mental morale, possibly due to a massive boil that he developed on his buttocks. His illness caused Frank Wild, the second-in-command, a lot of worry that he would not survive. However, Hudson pulled through and eventually recovered his health. Upon return from the expedition, Hudson took part in World War I, serving on Q-ships. He later also took part in World War II as a Royal Navy Reserve Convoy Commodore. Hudson died on 15 June 1942 while in convoy HG 84 when his ship, the merchant vessel Pelayo, was torpedoed by U-552. (en)

- Huberht Taylor Hudson (también conocido como Hubert Hudson, 17 de septiembre de 1886 - 15 de junio de 1942), fue un explorador y oficial de navegación en la Marina Británica que participó en la Expedición Imperial Transantártica de Ernest Shackleton a la Antártida, misión que aspiraba ser la primera en atravesar por tierra dicho continente. La expedición no consiguió cumplir su principal propósito de recorrer 2900 kilómetros, pero es recordada como una historia épica de supervivencia. Hudson logró volver de la misión para servir a su país en las dos guerras mundiales. Tras unirse a la expedición, Hudson se ganó el sobrenombre de "Buda", cuando el resto de la tripulación lo engañó con éxito para que se vistiera con poco más que una sábana para una supuesta fiesta de disfraces en la estación ballenera de Georgia del Sur. Durante la expedición, Hudson fue famoso por su capacidad de atrapar pingüinos, que la tripulación comía como fuente de alimento mientras estaba atrapada en el hielo. También se sabe que hacia el final de la expedición, Hudson sufrió un severo colapso mental, posiblemente debido a una lesión en sus glúteos. Su enfermedad causó que Frank Wild, segundo al mando, se preocupara por su vida. Sin embargo, Hudson finalmente recuperó su salud y pudo continuar con lo que quedaba de la expedición. - Huberht Taylor Hudson (Islington, 17 settembre 1886 – Oceano Atlantico, 15 giugno 1942) è stato un esploratore, marinaio e militare britannico.Secondo di sette figli, si arruola nella Royal Navy e viene scelto da Ernest Shackleton come ufficiale di rotta della nave Endurance per l'omonima spedizione. Arrivato con i compagni sull'isola Elephant dopo il naufragio della nave rimane quasi sempre con Perce Blackborow nel rifugio improvvisato dall'equipaggio a causa di un esaurimento nervoso e di un ascesso ad una natica. Al ritorno in Inghilterra in piena prima guerra mondiale viene assegnato ad una per dar la caccia agli U-Boot tedeschi. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale si trova con il grado di commodoro a bordo della HMS Eaglet quando la nave, al ritorno da Gibilterra, viene colpita da un siluro ed affonda. Hudson muore così il 15 giugno 1942. (it)
