- الحكومة المركزية هي الحكومة التي تمارس أو تنسق فيها السلطة أو السلطة القانونية بواسطة مسؤول تنفيذي بحكم الأمر الواقع في الولايات الفيدرالية والسلطات المحلية والوحدات الأصغر الخاضعة لها. في السياق الوطني، تحدث المركزية في نقل السلطة إلى الدولة القومية ذات السيادة عادة. يرجع الفضل إلى مينا، وهو فرعون مصري قديم من فترة الأسر المبكرة، وبحسب التقاليد الكلاسيكية مع توحيده مصر العليا والدنيا، وبصفته مؤسس الأسرة الأولى، أصبح أول حاكم يؤسس حكومة مركزية. جميع الحكومات المشكلة، إلى حد ما، مركزية بالضرورة، بمعنى أن الدولة الفيدرالية من الناحية النظرية تمارس سلطة أو امتيازًا يتجاوز سلطة الأجزاء المكونة لها. إلى الحد الذي تكون فيه الوحدة الأساسية للمجتمع - التي تُصوَّر عادةً كمواطن فردي - تتولى السلطة في وحدة أكبر، مثل الدولة أو المجتمع المحلي، تكون السلطة مركزية. إن المدى الذي يجب أن يحدث فيه هذا، والطرق التي تتطور بها الحكومة المركزية، يشكل جزءًا من نظرية العقد الاجتماعي. - A centralized government (also united government) is one in which both executive and legislative power is concentrated centrally at the higher level as opposed to it being more distributed at various lower level governments. In a national context, centralization occurs in the transfer of power to a typically unitary sovereign nation state. Executive and/or legislative power is then minimally delegated to unit subdivisions (state, county, municipal and other local authorities). Menes, an ancient Egyptian pharaoh of the early dynastic period, is credited by classical tradition with having united Upper and Lower Egypt, and as the founder of the first dynasty (Dynasty I), became the first ruler to institute a centralized government. All constituted governments are, to some degree, necessarily centralized, in the sense that even a federation exerts an authority or prerogative beyond that of its constituent parts. To the extent that a base unit of society – usually conceived as an individual citizen – vests authority in a larger unit, such as the state or the local community, authority is centralized. The extent to which this ought to occur, and the ways in which centralized government evolves, forms part of social contract theory. (en)
- Pemerintahan terpusat adalah ketika kekuasaan atau hukum diberikan atau dikoordinasikan oleh eksekutif politik sehingga negara bagian, pemerintahan daerah dan unit administrasif yang lebih kecil dianggap tunduk. Dalam konteks nasional, sentralisasi berlangsung dalam praktik transfer kekuasaan kepada negara berdaulat. Menes, firaun Mesir kuno dari periode dinasti awal yang dipuja dalam tradisi klasik karena berhasil menyatukan Mesir Hulu dan Hilir dan sebagai pendiri Dinasti pertama Mesir (Dinasti I), merupakan penguasa pertama yang melembagakan sistem pemerintahan terpusat.
