- The 1996 International Touring Car Championship was the thirteenth season of premier German touring car championship and also only first and final season under the moniker of International Touring Car Championship. It was for FIA Class 1 Touring Cars and it was contested by Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo and Opel. It was formed of the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft series that ran both a short German & International-based series in 1995. These were fused together to form the International Touring Car Championship (abbreviated to ITC). The eventual champion was Manuel Reuter driving an Opel Calibra, and Opel won the manufacturer's championship. (en)
- Die International Touring Car Championship 1996 war die zweite und zugleich letzte Saison der ITC. Nachdem auf dem Weg zur Internationalisierung der DTM im Jahr davor diese mit der ITC parallel ausgetragen wurde, ging die DTM 1996 komplett in die ITC auf.In offiziellen Statistiken wird die ITC-Saison 1996 als Teil der DTM betrachtet.Der erste Lauf fand am 14. April 1996 auf dem Hockenheimring und das Saisonfinale fand am 10. November auf dem Suzuka International Racing Course statt. Insgesamt wurden 26 Rennen in Deutschland, Portugal, Finnland, Großbritannien, Frankreich, Italien, Brasilien und Japan gefahren. Es wurden jeweils zwei Läufe an einem der 13 Rennwochenenden durchgeführt. Gesamtsieger wurde Manuel Reuter im Opel Calibra V6 4×4 mit 218 Punkten. Für Opel war es der erste Titelgewinn. Da die Kosten für die Entwicklung und den Einsatz der Rennwagen zu stark gestiegen waren, zogen sich nach Saisonende Opel und Alfa Romeo aus der Meisterschaft zurück. Damit blieb nur noch Mercedes als Konstrukteur in der ITC übrig, worauf hin die Rennserie eingestellt wurde. Erst 2000 wurde die Deutsche Tourenwagen-Masters (DTM) als Nachfolgeserie neu gegründet. - Le championnat DTM et de l'ITC 1996 s'est déroulé du 14 avril au 10 novembre 1996, sur un total de 13 courses, et a été remporté par le pilote allemand Manuel Reuter, au volant d'une Opel. Le titre de constructeur a quant à lui été décerné à Opel. Ce championnat regroupe des courses du DTM et des courses de l'ITC. Mais le DTM, qui partage le championnat avec l'ITC, ne parvenait pas à s'imposer hors des frontières allemandes, et la FIA, financièrement exigeante, n'arrangeait rien aux difficultés que connaissait le DTM. Du fait de cet échec, Alfa Romeo et Opel décide de jeter l'éponge et ce fut la disparition du DTM et de l'ITC. Mais en 2000, le DTM a fait son retour sur les pistes. Trois marques étaient engagées:
* Alfa Romeo avec l'Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI

Tytuł mistrzowski wywalczył Manuel Reuter, zaś najlepszym konstruktorem okazał się Opel. Ze względu na rosnące koszty, mniejsze wynagrodzenia, słabą promocję i oglądalność, Alfa Romeo i Opel postanowiły wycofać się z serii, co skutkowało zaniechaniem dalszej organizacji serii. Cztery lata później, w 2000, wskrzeszono serię DTM. (pl)
- В 1996 г. ДТМ был преобразован в ITC провел 13 этапов с 14 апреля по 10 ноября. FIA управляла чемпионатом, что сказалось на росте расходов и снижении доходов команд. В итоге Опель и Альфа-Ромео решили сначала сократить своё участие, а затем и вовсе прекратить. Всего в чемпионате участвовали три марки:

- A Temporada da International Touring Car Championship de 1996 foi a segunda edição da competição de turismo internacional e a 13º temporada do formato Meisterschaft da DTM. A serie contou com os carros: Mercedes-Benz, Alfa Romeo e Opel, a série teve treze rodadas. O campeão foi o alemão . Foi a segunda edição que a DTM propôs ser uma Categoria de Turismo Internacional com corridas e pilotos em um certame internacional com provas saindo da Europa, incluindo provas em Interlagos e Suzuka, e não apenas no entorno da Alemanha. Após esta temporada a competição foi descontinuada, e a DTM só voltou a a ser disputada em 2000. (pt)
