Cheshunt (/ˈtʃɛzənt/ CHEZ-ənt) is a town in Hertfordshire, England, 14 miles (23 km) north of London on the River Lea and Lee Navigation. It contains a section of the Lee Valley Park, including much of the River Lee Country Park. To the north lies Broxbourne and Wormley, Waltham Abbey to the east, Waltham Cross and Enfield to the south, and Cuffley to the west. At the 2011 census, Cheshunt had a population of 45,832.

Cheshunt liegt knapp 20 km vom Londoner Stadtzentrum entfernt an der West Anglia Main Line (London-Cambridge) und am Londoner Autobahnring M25. Die Stadt hat rund 50.000 Einwohner (2001). Cheshunt ist ein bedeutender Standort der Handelskette Tesco, deren Unternehmenszentrale sich lange Zeit hier befand. In Cheshunt befindet sich auch die ursprüngliche Zentrale des Autoherstellers Lotus Cars. Bis in die späten 1960er Jahre wurde das Land um Cheshunt hauptsächlich für die Pflanzenzucht genutzt, und viele neue Techniken für den Indoor-Anbau wurden hier entwickelt. Thomas Rochford hatte hier einen großen Betrieb. Inzwischen sind fast alle Gewächshäuser zu Wohnsiedlungen umgebaut worden sind. Dies spiegelt sich oft in den Namen der Straßen oder Siedlungen wider, wie zum Beispiel Rosedale oder Thomas Rochford Way. Cheshunt lag an der Ermine Street, der alten Römerstraße von London nach Norden. Im Domesday Book aus dem 11. Jahrhundert wird Cheshunt als Cestrehunt aufgeführt. Der Ortsname leitet sich womöglich teilweise vom lateinischen castrum ab, was darauf hindeutet, das der Ort aus einem ehemaligen römischen Militärlager entstanden ist. Im Jahre 1825 wurde in Cheshunt die erste Einschienenbahn von Henry Robinson Palmer eröffnet; sie wurde von Pferden gezogen und diente dem Transport von Ziegeln. Bis in die 1960er Jahre war Cheshunt dagegen vor allem ein Zentrum der Gärtnerei, wo vor allem Thomas Rochford mit seinem Unternehmen in entsprechenden Glashäusern neue Anbaumethoden erforschte. Die Pflanzen wurden früher auf dem östlich an Cheshunt vorbeifließenden Lea und später auf dem Landweg nach London transportiert. In Cheshunt existierte auch eine Schiffswerft. An deren Stelle befindet sich heute eine Jugendherberge. In den 1950er und 1960er Jahren wurde bei Cheshunt Kies abgebaut; das Gelände wurde dann wieder renaturiert. Heute befindet sich dort der Lee Valley Park. Im Jahre 2006 begann die Firma News International (Teil von Rupert Murdochs News Corporation) in Cheshunt mit dem Bau einer Druckerei. (de)

The urban districts of Cheshunt and Hoddesdon merged in 1974 to form the Borough of Broxbourne, the area's current local authority district. Cheshunt was not re-established as a successor parish.
