The 30-minute television series was responsible for taking the unnamed characters in the single-panel gag cartoons and giving them names, back stories and a household setting. This was the largely the work of writer David Levy, who created and developed the series with Donald Saltzman. The series was shot in black-and-white, airing for two seasons on ABC from September 18, 1964, to April 8, 1966, for a total of 64 episodes. The show's opening theme was composed and sung by Vic Mizzy. The show was originally produced by head writer Nat Perrin for Filmways, Inc., at General Service Studios in Hollywood, California. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer now owns the rights to the series. (en)

A série é baseda nos personagens criados por Charles Addams para o jornal The New Yorker na década de 1930. A série foi escrita por David Levy e Donald Saltzman, com base nas ideias de Charles Addams, que atuou como consultor do programa. Até então, os personagens criados por ele não tinham nome ou características, com Charles os nomeando e defindo um a um especialmente para a série. O clássico tema de abertura (com estalos de dedos) foi composto e cantado por Vic Mizzy. Atualmente os direitos do programa pertencem a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. A série marcou a primeira vez que os Addams foram apresentados ao público na televisão.
