- Stipendium adalah sumbangan uang yang diserahkan oleh orang beriman kepada imam atau pada yayasan amal, supaya Misa dipersembahkan demi ujud si pemberi atau intensi. Uang tersebut bukanlah harga untuk sebuah Misa namun bentuk derma untuk keperluan imam sehari-hari dengan syarat bahwa imam mempersembahkan Misa untuk ujud penderma. Kebiasaan ini berkembang dari apa yang sejak semula dipersembahkan umat pada perayaan Ekaristi untuk perjamuan bersama. Sisanya digunakan untuk imam dan orang-orang miskin. Seorang imam hanya boleh menerima satu stipendium saja untuk satu Misa. Uang yang melebihi jumlah yang ditetapkan sebagaimana yang telah ditetapkan oleh keuskupan harus diserahkan ke kas keuskupan dan tidak boleh dipakai untuk kas pastoran atau oleh imam sendiri. Aturan ketat tentang penerimaan dan pemakaian stipendium ditetapkan dalam Hukum Gereja untuk mencegah kesan buruk dalam masyarakat tentang Gereja. Distingue-se de um salário porque não representa necessariamente um pagamento por trabalho realizado, mas sim um pagamento que permite a alguém ficar isento parcial ou totalmente de um emprego assalariado por executar uma tarefa normalmente não paga, como por exemplo a de magistrado no Reino Unido, ou voluntária, ou de âmbito não configurável como emprego assalariado, como por exemplo o pagamento a membros do clero. Os estipêndios são normalmente menores do que seria atribuído como salário base por trabalho similar, porque normalmente o estipêndio é complementado por outros benefícios como a acreditação, a instrução, alojamento ou alimentação.
