- Stephan Báthory von Ecsed (ungarisch: Báthori István) (* 1430; † 1493) war Woiwode von Siebenbürgen und außerdem Gerichtsherr des Landes und Mitglied des Drachenordens. 1479 war Báthory siegreich in der Schlacht auf dem Brotfeld gegen die Türken. Von den erbeuteten Geldern begann er in seiner Heimatstadt Nyírbátor die Franziskanerkirche auszubauen und ab 1484 die eigens für die Familiengruft gedachte St.-Georgs-Kirche zu errichten. Letztere wurde im Jahre 1511 fertiggestellt. (de)

He rose to power under King Matthias Corvinus of Hungary and after the king's death sided with Vladislav Jagiellon of Bohemia and later together with Pál Kinizsi defeated Prince John Corvin in the Battle of Csonthegy (1493). As a result of his cruelty in Transylvania, especially against the Székelys, he was deposed by the King in 1493 and died shortly afterwards. (en)

Salì al potere all'epoca di re Mattia Corvino d'Ungheria e dopo la morte del sovrano si schierò con Ladislao Jagellone di Boemia e poi assieme a sconfisse il principe Giovanni Corvino nella Battaglia di Csonthegy (1493). Per la crudeltà dimostrata in Transilvania, specialmente contro gli Siculi (Trabsilvania), venne deposto dal re nel 1493 e morì poco dopo. (it)
