- Cet article présente la liste du nombre de joueurs étrangers ayant évolué en NBA. La NBA définit un « joueur international » comme quelqu'un né à l'extérieur des États-Unis. Les joueurs nés dans les territoires américains tels que Porto Rico, les Îles Vierges et Guam sont considérés comme internationaux, en dépit d'être considérés comme des citoyens américains. Dans certains cas, la NBA prend en considération si un joueur veut être identifié comme international. Hank Biasatti, né en Italie, mais ayant grandi au Canada, a été le premier joueur étranger à jouer un match en NBA. Le nombre de joueurs internationaux dans la ligue a augmenté après les Jeux Olympiques de 1992, lorsque la Dream Team s'est présentée en compétition officielle avec un ensemble de stars américaines évoluant en NBA. L’intérêt mondial pour le basket-ball a alors grimpé en flèche. Le premier jour de la saison 1991-1992, on dénombrait 23 joueurs internationaux, issus de 18 pays. À l'aube de la saison NBA 2022-2023, la NBA compte un total de 120 joueurs internationaux dans les effectifs des différentes franchises de la ligue. Le Canada est le pays qui a produit le plus de joueurs étrangers dans l'histoire de la NBA, avec 60 joueurs ayant joué au moins un match NBA. Au niveau des pays européens, la France a produit un total de 42 joueurs, et la Serbie 31 joueurs. De l’Océanie, l’Australie a produit 32 joueurs tandis que la Nouvelle-Zélande a produit 3 joueurs. Des pays africains tels que le Nigeria et le Sénégal ont produit respectivement 30 et 12 joueurs. Pour les pays d’Amérique latine, le Brésil a produit 18 joueurs, tandis que Porto Rico en a produit 17 et l’Argentine en a produit 16. Au niveau des pays asiatiques, la Chine a produit 6 joueurs, tandis que le Japon et le Liban en ont tous deux produit 5. Parmi les pays transcontinentaux, la Turquie, la Russie et la Géorgie ont produit 14, 13 et 11 joueurs respectivement. Au total, 83 joueurs sont issus de l’ex-Yougoslavie (Bosnie-Herzégovine, Croatie, Monténégro, Macédoine du Nord, Serbie et Slovénie) et 55 joueurs sont issus de l’ex-Union soviétique (Biélorussie, Estonie, Géorgie, Lettonie, Lituanie, Russie et Ukraine). - In the National Basketball Association, players born outside of the United States are often known as international players. Players who were born in U.S. overseas territories, such as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, are considered international players even if they are U.S. citizens. In some borderline cases, the NBA takes into consideration whether a player desires to be identified as international. Additionally, there are players who are U.S. citizens on account of being born there but who also have additional citizenships or have represented other countries in international basketball competition. This list contains all players who fulfill at least one of these conditions. Players whose nationality is listed as United States were born outside of the country but have represented them in international basketball tournament. Players who were born outside the United States to U.S. parents and players who became naturalized U.S. citizens are also included in that section. Hank Biasatti, who was born in Italy and raised in Canada, was the first international player in the league in 1946. The number of international players in the league rose after the formation of the Dream Team when NBA players were allowed into Olympic play starting in 1992. Global interest in basketball subsequently soared. On opening day of the 1991–92 season, NBA rosters included 23 international players from 18 countries. At the start of the 2016–17 season, there was a record-high 113 international players from 41 countries and territories. In the start of the 2017–18 season, there were 108 international players from a record-high 42 countries and territories, including five players signed up through the newly implemented two-way contract. The number of players on opening-night rosters broke an all-time league record first set in 2010–11 and tied in 2012–13, and the number of countries represented surpassed the record set in 2010–11. In addition, the San Antonio Spurs set an all-time record for international players on an opening-night squad, with 10 during the 2013–14 season. As of the 2022–23 season, Canada has produced the most foreign NBA players, with 61. From European countries, France has produced 42 players, and Serbia has produced 31. From Oceania, Australia has produced 32 players while New Zealand has produced 3 players. From African countries, Nigeria and Senegal have produced 30 and 12 players respectively. From Latin American countries, Brazil has produced 18 players, while Puerto Rico has produced 17 and Argentina has produced 16. From Asian countries, China has produced 6 players, while Japan and Lebanon have both produced 5. Among transcontinental countries, Turkey, Russia, and Georgia have produced 14, 13 and 11 players respectively. - Il primo giocatore straniero a militare in NBA fu Hank Biasatti, nato in Italia ma cresciuto in Canada. Biasatti debuttò nel 1946 (quando l'NBA si chiamava BAA). Negli anni '80 tanti giocatori internazionali in NBA arrivarono dal Canada, ma l'episodio spartiacque fu la sconfitta della Nazionale statunitense alle Olimpiadi di Seoul del 1988; a seguito della vittoria dell'URSS al torneo olimpico, un po' di giocatori stranieri dall'Europa arrivarono a giocare in NBA alla fine degli anni '80 (Vlade Divac e Dražen Petrović i più importanti), fino all'aumento che ci fu negli anni '90 (in quel periodo arrivarono tante stelle dall'ex Jugoslavia tra cui Toni Kukoč). Nella stagione 2016-2017 ci fu il record di stranieri all'opening night: 113 in totale, provenienti da 41 paesi diversi. L'anno successivo invece, vi furono 5 stranieri in meno prima dell'apertura, ma provenienti da 42 paesi diversi (record). I San Antonio Spurs 2013-2014 a oggi sono la squadra con più stranieri nella storia della NBA, in quanto si presentarono all'opening night con 10 stranieri su 15 nel roster. (it)
