General Santos, officially known as the City of General Santos, and abbreviated as GenSan, is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the region of Soccsksargen, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 697,315 people.  It is located on the island of Mindanao, it is the southernmost and 15th-most populous city in the Philippines. It is the regional center for commerce and industry of the Soccsksargen region, and is geographically located within the province of South Cotabato but administered independently of it.

Zuvor war die Gegend lediglich vom Volk der B'laan bewohnte, welche nomadisch umherzogen und den Ort Dadiangas nannten. Im Juni 1956 wurde erstmals der Name „General Santos“ für den Ort eingeführt. Dieser wurde dann beibehalten, als General Santos am 8. Juli 1968 den Status einer Stadt erhielt. Heute gehören die Agrarindustrie und die Fischerei zu den wichtigsten Wirtschaftsbereichen der Stadt. Dort werden unter anderem Ananas, Mais, Thunfisch und Kokosnüsse produziert und verarbeitet. Die Rinderzucht spielt ebenfalls eine große Rolle für diese Region. Durch große Wirtschaftshilfen von Japan, USA und der Weltbank konnte die Infrastruktur von General Santos in den 1990er Jahren stark verbessert werden: Mit dem Bau eines neuen Flughafens, der Errichtung neuer Docks und Hafenmolen begann man 1994.
