Bill Plympton (born April 30, 1946) is an American animator best known for his 1987 Academy Award-nominated animated short Your Face.

A partir de 1968, il prend des cours à la School of Visual Arts de New York Il devient ensuite dessinateur de Bande dessinée et de caricatures pour de nombreux magazines. Certains de ses courts métrages, comme Plymptoons, sont des adaptations de ses bandes dessinées. Il a obtenu deux Grands prix du long métrage au Festival international du film d'animation d'Annecy : en 1998 pour "L'Impitoyable Lune de miel !" et en 2001 pour "Les mutants de l'espace". Il a également obtenu en 2001 à Cannes le Prix Canal + du meilleur court métrage par la "Semaine Internationale de la Critique" pour le court métrage d'animation "Eat". (fr)

  • Bill Plympton (* 30. April 1946 in Portland, Oregon) ist ein US-amerikanischer Animator und Regisseur. Von frühester Jugend begeistert von den Trickfilmen, die er im US-amerikanischen Fernsehen sah, begann Plympton bereits früh damit Karikaturen zu zeichnen. Mit 16 schickt er einige seiner Entwürfe an Disney, die ihm aber auf seine Bewerbung um einen Job, ob seines Alters, eine Absage erteilen. 1977 stellt er mit "Lucas the Ear of Corn" seinen ersten animierten Kurzfilm fertig. Weitere folgen und werden mit zunehmender Häufigkeit auf MTV gezeigt. 1988 wird der Kurzfilm "Your Face" für einen Oscar in der Kategorie: "best animation" nominiert. 1992 folgt dann Plymptons erster animierter Spielfilm "The Tune" auf den weitere, wie etwa 2001 der viel beachtete Film "Mutant Aliens", folgten. Plymptons Filme richten sich, wie er selbst sagt, an ein eher erwachsenes Publikum, da sie ein für Trickfilme, verhältnismäßig hohes Maß an Sex und Gewalt beinhalten und mit einem recht dunklen Humor aufwarten.
