- Wavefront Technologies war ein 1984 gegründetes amerikanisches Unternehmen, das zu den Pionieren der Softwareentwicklung für Compositing und Computeranimation gehörte. Aber auch im analogen Filmbereich spielte Wavefront eine Rolle. Die Firma entwickelte unter anderem Spezialeffekte für die Fernsehserie Knight Rider und die NASA. 1995 wurde Wavefront zusammen mit der kanadischen Konkurrenz Alias Research vom Computerhersteller Silicon Graphics übernommen und als Marke Alias|Wavefront weitergeführt. Bei der Übernahme durch Autodesk fiel diese Bezeichnung weg. Heute ist nur noch das von Wavefront initiierte 3D-Computeranimationspaket Maya auf dem Markt. It was founded in 1984, in Santa Barbara, California, by Bill Kovacs, Larry Barels, Mark Sylvester. They started the company to produce computer graphics for movies and television commercials, and to market their own software, as there were no off-the-shelf computer animation tools available at the time. In 1995, Wavefront Technologies was acquired by Silicon Graphics, and merged with Alias Research to form Alias|Wavefront. (en)

Juntas formaram a Alias|Wavefront e lançaram o programa Maya em 1998 - que se tornou um dos mais populares softwares 3D de modelagem, animação e efeitos especiais. Em junho de 2004 a Accel-KKR e Ontario Teacher´s Pension Plan compraram a Alias da Silicon Graphics, e em 10 de Janeiro de 2006 a Autodesk completou a aquisição da Alias por $197 milhões de dólares.
