- Der WNBA Rookie of the Year Award ist eine jährliche Auszeichnung für die beste Nachwuchsspielerin (englisch: Rookie) der Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Der Gewinner dieser Auszeichnung wird durch eine Abstimmung unter Sportjournalisten und Fernsehberichterstattern festgelegt. Cheryl Ford und Maya Moore sind bisher die einzige Spielerinnen, die mit dem WNBA Rookie of the Year Award ausgezeichnet wurden und die WNBA-Meisterschaft in derselben Saison gewannen. Zu Beginn der Liga wurde neben der besten Nachwuchsspielerin auch der beste Liga-Neuling (englisch: Newcomer) gewählt. Diese Ehrung WNBA Newcomer of the Year Award ging an Spielerinnen, die ihre erste Saison in der WNBA bestritten, aber nicht mehr unter dem Begriff Nachwuchsspielerin fielen, da diese eine Karriere vor der WNBA hatten. La jugadora es seleccionada por un panel de periodistas deportivos de los Estados Unidos, cada uno elige a quienes considera las mejores tres rookies de la temporada regular, a la que se coloca en primer puesto se le dan cinco puntos, a la segunda tres puntos y a la tercera un punto, la jugadora con mayor número de votos totales, independientemente del número de votos de primera posición, gana el premio. La ganadora recibe $5,000 dólares y un trofeo especialmente diseñado por Tiffany & Co. Il est décerné annuellement depuis la saison 1998 et récompense la meilleure rookie de la saison régulière. Each first-place vote is worth five points; each second-place vote is worth three points; and each third-place vote is worth one point. The player(s) with the highest point total, regardless of the number of first-place votes, wins the award. The 2003 award winner Cheryl Ford and 2011 award winner Maya Moore are the only players to win both the WNBA Rookie of the Year award and a WNBA championship in the same season. The 2008 award winner was Candace Parker who became the first player to win the award after garnering all possible votes and also the first player to win the WNBA Most Valuable Player Award in the same season. In the NBA, only Wilt Chamberlain and Wes Unseld have won the Most Valuable Player Award and Rookie of the Year Award in the same season. The 2020 award winner, Crystal Dangerfield, is the first who was not chosen in the first round of the draft; she was chosen in the second round in 2020 as the 16th overall pick. Laureatka nagrody jest wybierana przez panel złożony z dziennikarzy sportowych z całych Stanów Zjednoczonych. Każdy z nich oddaje głos na pierwsze, drugie i trzecie miejsce. Pierwsze miejsce otrzymuje pięć punktów, drugie - trzy, trzecie - jeden. Zawodniczka z najwyższą sumą punktów, bez względu na liczbę pierwszych miejsce w głosowaniu, otrzymuje nagrodę. Laureatka z 2003 roku Cheryl Ford oraz z 2011 - Maya Moore są jedynymi zawodniczkami w historii (stan na 2015), które zdobyły tytuł debiutantki roku oraz mistrzostwo WNBA w tym samym sezonie.
