- The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland (RAI) is a long-established anthropological organisation, and Learned Society, with a global membership. Its remit includes all the component fields of anthropology, such as biological anthropology, evolutionary anthropology, social anthropology, cultural anthropology, visual anthropology and medical anthropology, as well as sub-specialisms within these, and interests shared with neighbouring disciplines such as human genetics, archaeology and linguistics. It seeks to combine a tradition of scholarship with services to anthropologists, including students. The RAI promotes the public understanding of anthropology, as well as the contribution anthropology can make to public affairs and social issues. It includes within its constituency not only academic anthropologists, but also those with a general interest in the subject, and those trained in anthropology who work in other fields. (en)
- Le Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland ou RAI (en français : Institut royal d'anthropologie de Grande-Bretagne et d'Irlande) est la plus ancienne institution liée à l'étude de l'anthropologie de la planète. Fondé en 1843, l'Institut a été à l'avant-garde du développement et de la diffusion du savoir anthropologique. Il s'intéresse à tous les champs de la discipline (anthropologie physique, anthropologie évolutive, anthropologie sociale, anthropologie culturelle, anthropologie visuelle, anthropologie de la santé) ainsi qu'à toutes disciplines connexes (génétique humaine, archéologie ou linguistique). Parmi ses membres, l'Institut compte non seulement des universitaires mais également toutes sortes de personnes intéressées par l'anthropologie et travaillant dans d'autres domaines. Il existe plusieurs façons d'adhérer et plusieurs catégories d'affiliés, dont certaines (Fellow, Student Fellow) requirent d'être élu par le Conseil de l'Institut et sont facilités par un parrainage par un Fellow (sans que cela soit une exigence), tandis que d'autres ne requièrent pas d'élection (Member).
