- Der Schwarzmasken-Kleidervogel (Loxioides bailleui), früher auch Palila genannt, ist eine vom Aussterben bedrohte Vogelart aus der Tribus der Kleidervögel (Drepanidini). Sein Finkenschnabel weist ihn als Vertreter der echten Finken aus. Kopf und Brust, die gold-gelb gefärbt sind, kontrastieren mit einem grauen oder weißen Bauch. Dieser Vogel lebt in enger Symbiose mit der Mamane, ein Perlschnurbaum, der endemisch auf Hawaii ist. Der Schwarzmasken-Kleidervogel ist hauptsächlich wegen der Lebensraumzerstörung bedroht. Émile Oustalet beschrieb die Art erstmals 1877. Ursprünglich wurde Loxioides bailleui in die Gattung gestellt. Heute bildet der Schwarzmasken-Kleidervogel die einzige überlebende Art der Gattung Loxioides, die früher auch auf Kauaʻi und Oʻahu vorkam. Sein hawaiischer Namen ist o'u-po'opapale. (de)

It has a golden-yellow head and breast, with a light belly, gray back, and greenish wings and tail. The bird has a close ecological relationship with the māmane tree (Sophora chrysophylla), and became endangered due to destruction of the trees and accompanying dry forests. The first specimen of the palila was collected in 1876 at the Greenwell Ranch on the Big Island by Pierre Étienne Théodore Ballieu (1828–1885), who was French consul in Hawai‘i from 1869 to 1878. The type specimen (No. 1876-645) is housed at the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle in Paris. (en)
