- Mobil 1 ist eine Marke, die ursprünglich vom Mineralölkonzern Mobil Oil entwickelt wurde und seit dem Zusammenschluss mit Exxon von ExxonMobil vertrieben wird. Die Marke wurde 1974 als vollsynthetisches Motoröl 5W-20 eingeführt und für eine Laufleistung von bis zu 25.000 Meilen respektive rund 40.000 km beworben. Später wurde die Empfehlung für die Laufleistung weggelassen und das Produkt auch für andere Viskositäten überarbeitet. 2002 wurde von Mobil 1 die „SuperSyn“-Technologie vorgestellt, wodurch die Abnutzung verringert werden sollte. Durch die 2005 vorgestellte sogenannte „Extended Performance“ soll diese Technologie weiter verbessert werden. Neben Motoröl werden unter der Marke auch Ölfilter, Schmiermittel, Getriebeöl und Schmiermittel für Getriebe vertrieben. (de)
- Mobil 1 is a brand of synthetic motor oil and other automotive lubrication products. Originally developed by the Mobil oil company, it is now globally marketed and sold by ExxonMobil. Mobil 1 engine oil was introduced in 1974. The brand range now includes a variety of engine oils, oil filters, chassis grease, transmission fluids, and gear lubricants. In 1998, Mobil sued Castrol over the discovery that Castrol was processing conventional oil and calling it synthetic. At the time, Mobil 1 was still created using a true synthetic basestock, which is more expensive. Mobil lost the lawsuit, and, as a result, the definition of 'synthetic oil' became looser. In response, Mobil downgraded their process to the less expensive process. The result is a hydrocracked, hydroisomerized conventional oil. Lubes N' Greases magazine has reported shortcomings in the ability to pass the tests that the original Mobil 1 formula was able to. (en)
