- Die Highlanders (früher Otago Highlanders genannt) sind eine Rugby-Union-Mannschaft aus der neuseeländischen Stadt Dunedin. Die Mannschaft spielt in der internationalen Super-Rugby-Liga. Sie repräsentiert die Regionalverbände Otagu RFU, und Southland Rugby. Das Einzugsgebiet der Franchise umfasst somit den südlichen Teil der Südinsel. Die Heimspiele werden seit der Saison 2011 im Forsyth Barr Stadium, Neuseelands größter Indoor-Arena, ausgetragen. Mannschaftsfarben sind Königsblau, Kastanienbraun und Gold. Der Name der Mannschaft wurde gewählt, weil sich in den Regionen Otago, und Southland, aus der sich die Fans rekrutieren, im 19. Jahrhundert überwiegend Schotten niederließen. Der Begriff „Highlander“ soll Loyalität, Stärke, Ehrlichkeit und harte Arbeit symbolisieren. Auf dem Mannschaftslogo ist ein ausgelassener Bewohner der schottischen Highlands abgebildet, mit Schild in der einen und einem Claymore in der anderen Hand. Damit soll die Gleichwertigkeit von Verteidigung und Angriff verdeutlicht werden. Die Mannschaft spielt hauptsächlich in Dunedin. Ein Heimspiel je Saison wird jedoch in Invercargill im Rugby Park Stadium ausgetragen, seit 2007 auch eines im in Queenstown. Im Jahr 2015 gewannen die Highlanders erstmals das Super Rugby Turnier. - The Highlanders (formerly the Otago Highlanders) is a New Zealand professional rugby union team based in Dunedin that compete in Super Rugby. The team was formed in 1996 to represent the lower South Island in the newly formed Super 12 competition, and includes the Otago, North Otago and Southland unions. The Highlanders take their name from the Scottish immigrants that helped found the Otago, North Otago, and Southland regions in the 1840s and 1850s. Their main ground through the 2011 Super Rugby season was Carisbrook in Dunedin, with home games occasionally being played in Invercargill and Queenstown. The Highlanders moved into Carisbrook's replacement, Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza, for the 2012 season; the stadium opened in time for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, but after the Super Rugby season. They finished the inaugural season eighth, and the following season finished last after winning only three of eleven matches. However, in the 1998, 1999 and 2000 seasons they qualified for semi-finals; hosting the 1999 competition final against fellow South Island team the Crusaders. They lost the match 24–19, and the following year were again knocked out by the Crusaders—this time in their semi-final. In the following fifteen seasons they would only finish in the top four once more, in 2002. But in 2015, they were crowned Super Rugby champions after beating the Hurricanes at Westpac Stadium . Current Highlander, Aaron Smith has played a record 176 games for the Highlanders, and 47 other players have played over 50 games for the team. The Highlanders' highest career points scorer is Lima Sopoaga with 866 points, and highest career try scorer is Waisake Naholo with 45 tries. - Highlanders (dawniej Otago Highlanders) – nowozelandzka profesjonalna drużyna rugby union z siedzibą w Dunedin, występująca w elitarnych rozgrywkach Super Rugby. Drużyna reprezentuje lokalne związki rugby z Otago, oraz Southland. Drużyna swą nazwę oraz znajdującego się w logotypie szkockiego górala w kilcie zaczerpnęła od imigrantów z tego kraju, którzy przybyli do Otago i okolic w latach 40. i 50. XIX wieku. Barwami drużyny są połączone kolory poszczególnych regionów, a więc niebieski (Otago), żółty (Północne Otago) oraz kasztanowy (Southland). W sezonie 2011, jako wyjazdowy strój, wprowadzono kontrowersyjną zieloną koszulkę, jednak planowany jest powrót do tradycyjnego zestawu trzech kolorów. Stadionem Highlanders do 2011 roku był stadion Carisbrook w Dunedin, jednak od początku sezonu 2012 drużyna przeniosła się na zbudowany na potrzeby Pucharu Świata w 2011 roku Forsyth Barr Stadium w Dunedin. Wyjątkowo Górale rozgrywają swoje mecze także na stadionach w Invercargill i Queenstown.
