Η περίοδος 1960-61 αναγνωρίστηκε από την UEFA το 1963 κατόπιν πιέσεων από την Ιταλική Ομοσπονδία Ποδοσφαίρου. - The 1960–61 season of the European Cup Winners' Cup club football tournament was won by Italian club Fiorentina in two-legged final victory against Rangers of Scotland. Organised by the Mitropa Cup committee, this tournament's edition was recognised by UEFA in 1963, after lobbying by the Italian Football Federation.This was the first season that the tournament took place for the winners of each European country's domestic cup, and was the only one to be decided in a two-legged final. Only ten sides entered the competition, partially due to the low expectations for the new tournament among association football fans, and also to the unofficial nature of this edition. SC Dynamo Berlin was the winner of the 1959 FDGB-Pokal and should naturally have represented East Germany in the 1960–61 European Cup Winners' Cup. However, the German Football Association of the GDR (German: Deutscher Fußball-Verband der DDR) (DFV) found local rival and league runners-up ASK Vorwärts Berlin to be a more suitable representative of East Germany in the competition. It is a myth that the low number of entrants was due to few countries already having a domestic cup competition: as happened for the first edition of the European Cup, entrance criteria could be changed by each national federation. Fiorentina entered as runners-up to Juventus in both Coppa Italia and Serie A, Czechoslovakia sent the winners of an unofficial League Cup, and both Hungary and East Germany enrolled their league runners-up. - Der Europapokal der Pokalsieger 1960/61 war die erste Ausspielung des Wettbewerbs für europäischer Fußball-Pokalsieger. Diese hatte noch inoffiziellen Charakter, da sie noch nicht von der UEFA organisiert wurde, sondern von einem Komitee, das aus Funktionären der teilnehmenden Vereine bestand. Die Finalspiele fanden am 17. und 27. Mai 1961 zwischen dem AC Florenz und den Glasgow Rangers statt. Florenz gewann durch ein 2:0 in Glasgow und einen 2:1-Heimsieg mit 4:1 in der Addition die erste Austragung. Torschützenkönig wurde Kurt Hamrin mit sechs Treffern, der bei den siegreichen Italienern unter Vertrag stand. Lediglich 10 Klubmannschaften nahmen teil, darunter 6 amtierende Pokalsieger, 2 Pokalfinalisten und 2 Vizemeister. Der tschechoslowakische Vertreter Spartak ZJŠ Brno stand zu diesem Zeitpunkt erst im Finale des nationalen Pokalwettbewerbs, Italien sandte mit dem AC Florenz den Pokalfinalisten, da Juventus Turin als italienischer Double-Gewinner bereits für den Europapokal der Landesmeister 1960/61 qualifiziert war. In Ungarn gab es zu diesem Zeitpunkt keinen nationalen Pokalwettbewerb, Teilnehmer Ferencváros Budapest war Vizemeister. Der Fußballverband der DDR entsandte statt des Pokalsiegers Dynamo Berlin den Vizemeister der Saison 1959 ASK Vorwärts Berlin, weil dieser als geeigneterer Vertreter der DDR angesehen wurde. - De eerste editie van de Beker der Bekerwinnaars (Engels: European Cup Winners' Cup), georganiseerd door het Mitropacup-comité, werd door het Italiaanse AC Fiorentina gewonnen in de enige finale van de beker die in twee wedstrijden zou worden beslist. Er namen slechts tien landen deel, de bekerwinnaar van dat land of de finalist indien de bekerwinnaar landskampioen was. Het aantal was niet zo groot, omdat sommige landen de beker niet zo belangrijk vonden of omdat er nog geen echte bekercompetitie was in het land.
