Son intitulé complet est : « Établir des modes de consommation et de production durables ». La consommation et la production durables encouragent à utiliser les ressources et l’énergie de manière efficace, à mettre en place des infrastructures durables et à assurer à tous l’accès aux services de base, à des emplois verts et décents et à une meilleure qualité de vie. L'ODD 12 vise à « faire plus et mieux avec moins ». Il s'agit de corréler l'accroissement des gains socio-économiques nets générés par les activités économiques avec la diminution de la pression exercée sur les ressources par leur utilisation, leur dégradation et la pollution générée tout au long du cycle de vie des produits. Cela nécessite de repenser nos modes de consommation et de production actuels et en premier lieu dans nos sociétés développées. Cet objectif met en jeu de nombreuses parties prenantes et en particulier les entreprises, les consommateurs et les décideurs. Tous les acteurs contribuant à une chaîne d'approvisionnement, des producteurs aux consommateurs finaux sont invités à travailler en coopération. Il est également nécessaire d'adopter une démarche systémique de l'extraction de la ressource à la fin de vie des produits utilisés pour pouvoir atteindre les cibles fixées par cet ODD. - Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12 or Global Goal 1), titled "responsible consumption and production", is one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015. The official wording of SDG 12 is "Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns". SDG 12 is meant to ensure good use of resources, improving energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and providing access to basic services, green and decent jobs and ensuring a better quality of life for all. SDG 12 has 11 targets to be achieved by at least 2030 and progress toward the targets is measured using 13 indicators. Sustainable Development Goal 12 has 11 targets. The first 8 are "outcome targets", which are: implement the 10‑Year Framework of Programs on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns; achieve the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources; reducing by half the per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and the reduction of food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses; achieving the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle; reducing waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse; encourage companies to adopt sustainable practices; promote public procurement practices that are sustainable; and ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development. The three "means of achievement" targets are: support developing countries to strengthen their scientific and technological capacity; develop and implement tools to monitor sustainable development impacts; and remove market distortions, like fossil fuel subsidies, that encourage wasteful consumption. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) refers to “the use of services and related products, which respond to basic needs and bring a better quality of life while minimizing the use of natural resources and toxic materials as well as the emissions of waste and pollutants over the life cycle of the service or product so as not to jeopardize the needs of future generations”. The growing global population combined with unsustainable uses of natural resources is causing devastating impacts on the planet — propelling climate change, destroying ecosystems, and rising pollution levels. As a result of these growing challenges, sustainable consumption and production aims to inspire governments, businesses, and citizens to do more and better with less, as it promotes economic growth without environmental degradation. Also, increases resource efficiency promotes sustainable lifestyles. In addition, sustainable consumption and production can also contribute to poverty alleviation and the transition towards low-carbon and green economies. Therefore, the United Nations invites all initiatives that address any of the targets and its indicators, including the use of eco-friendly production methods and reducing the amount of waste. Para conseguir crescimento econômico e desenvolvimento sustentável, é necessário que diminuamos urgentemente nossa pegada ecológica de uso através de mudanças na forma de produção e consumo de bens e recursos. A agricultura é a atividade econômica que mais consome água em todo o mundo e a irrigação, hoje em dia, requer quase 70% de toda a água doce disponível para uso humano. O ODS 12 tem 11 metas a serem atingidas até 2030 e seu progresso é mensurado através de 13 indicadores. As metas do Objetivo 12 incluem o uso de métodos de produção amigáveis ao meio ambiente e a redução da quantidade de resíduos. Até 2030, as taxas de reciclagem nacionais devem aumentar, em medidas de toneladas de material reciclado.
