Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) is an anti-piracy system created by Microsoft that enforces Microsoft Windows online validation of the authenticity of several recent Microsoft operating systems when accessing several Microsoft Windows services, such as Windows Update, and downloading Windows components from the Microsoft Download Center. Specifically, WGA covers Windows XP and Windows Vista. It does not cover Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 or the Windows 9x family. However, certain downloads and non-critical updates from the Download Center for Windows 2000 require validation.It also advertises Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, which requires manual intervention to disable.

  • Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) è un programma creato per il sistema operativo Microsoft Windows che permette di verificare la chiave Product Key del sistema. Ultimamente WGA è stato modificato ed evoluto in WGA Notification, programma che viene eseguito all' avvio di Windows e controlla il Product Key dopodiché avverte l'utente (se il sistema è pirata) di essere in possesso di una copia non valida del sistema e quindi di dover comprare una licenza autentica per abilitare il proprio Windows a un sistema riconosciuto. Precisamente il programma viene installato solitamente tramite Aggiornamenti Automatici e attivato al successivo riavvio. Non è possibile rimuovere questo tipo di aggiornamento tramite Installazione Applicazioni, ma nella rete è comunque disponibile un crack per la rimozione, rilasciata pochissimo tempo dopo; va detto che attualmente Microsoft ha personalmente descritto come rimuovere il programma. Anche se l'aggiornamento WGA Notification non è installato, è comunque possibile usufruire dei successivi aggiornamenti disponibili per il sistema operativo. (it)
