- Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer (Japanese: うる星やつら２ ビューティフル・ドリーマー, Hepburn: Urusei Yatsura 2 Byūtifuru Dorīmā) is a 1984 Japanese anime fantasy comedy film written and directed by Mamoru Oshii. It is the second film in the Urusei Yatsura film series based on the manga of the same name by Rumiko Takahashi. Its predecessor, Only You, was also directed by Oshii. It was released in Japan on February 11, 1984 during the second season of the series. While Only You was more faithful to Takahashi's original manga and anime series, Beautiful Dreamer was a significant departure, with Oshii placing an emphasis on deeper philosophical issues. Although the film initially received mixed responses upon its initial release, Beautiful Dreamer later received critical acclaim as an early example of Oshii’s well-received style of filmmaking. In 2009, Kinema Junpo ranked it as one of the best Japanese animated movies. The film experimented with concepts such as a time loop, dreams, and reality manipulation, and has drawn comparisons to later works including Ghost in the Shell (1995), Groundhog Day (1993), Dark City (1998) and Inception (2010). - Lamù - Beautiful Dreamer (うる星やつら2 ビューティフルドリーマー Urusei Yatsura ni - Byūtifuru Dorīmā?, Urusei Yatsura 2 - Beautiful Dreamer) è un film d'animazione del 1984 diretto da Mamoru Oshii. È il secondo film cinematografico tratto dal manga Lamù di Rumiko Takahashi ed è ispirato alla leggenda di Urashima Tarō. Benché il film sia generalmente molto amato dai fan della serie, quando la pellicola fu proiettata per la prima volta in Giappone, il responso del pubblico fu abbastanza negativo. Nonostante questo insuccesso è il lungometraggio di Lamù più celebrato dalla critica ed è considerato uno dei capolavori di Mamoru Oshii. Quest'ultimo, insoddisfatto del primo film Lamù - Only You, decise che, anche a costo di deludere le aspettative dei fan, avrebbe fatto di testa propria. Beautiful Dreamer, anziché celebrare il mondo di Lamù (cosa che normalmente ci si aspetta dai lungometraggi legati a serie animate), sembrava volerlo analizzare "dall'interno". I fan ne furono estremamente delusi e Mamoru Oshii abbandonò per sempre la produzione di "Urusei Yatsura", per dedicarsi a progetti più sperimentali. Il suo film del 1987 The Red Spectacles, è quasi una versione dal vivo di questa pellicola. Rumiko Takahashi, l'autrice del fumetto, sollecitata dai fan di "Urusei Yatsura" fu quasi costretta a rinnegare la storia del film, che deviava troppo dal plot originale. (it)
