- Gonzo, also known as The Great Gonzo or Gonzo the Great, is a Muppet character known for his eccentric passion for stunt performance. Aside from his trademark enthusiasm for performance art, another defining trait of Gonzo is the ambiguity of his species, which has become a running gag in the franchise. He has been considered to be of various origins, including a Frackle, in his debut appearance in The Great Santa Claus Switch; extraterrestrial in Muppets from Space; or avian creature. Developed and performed by Dave Goelz, Gonzo made his first appearance in the 1970 special The Great Santa Claus Switch, as the "Cigar Box Frackle". Originally a minor figure in The Muppet Show, he soon evolved into one of the franchise's primary characters. Gonzo has appeared in every Muppet film, including The Muppet Christmas Carol, where he portrayed author Charles Dickens and developed a double act with Rizzo the Rat. (en)

- Gonzo il Grande (Gonzo the Great) è uno dei personaggi del Muppet Show. Gonzo è uno stuntman lunatico e un po' folle che si crede un artista. Spesso esegue acrobazie o altre pazzie, come saltare da una rampa a bordo di una moto, dal palcoscenico fino al balcone del teatro Statler e Waldorf, oppure mangiare uno pneumatico di un'auto al ritmo del Volo del calabrone o prendere al volo una palla di cannone a mani nude. Una delle più famose gag di Gonzo è il cercare di suonare una tromba alla fine della sigla iniziale del "Muppet Show", ma sempre con risultati diversi di quello che dovrebbero essere. Al contrario degli altri Muppet, non è riconducibile chiaramente a nessuna specie animale (nel cartone animato Muppet Babies viene sbeffeggiato con il nomignolo di "pollastro blu"). Il fatto che spesso si pensa che Gonzo sia un uccello spiega il fatto del suo amore per gli uccelli (specialmente le galline), infatti è fidanzato con la gallina Camilla. Nel film I Muppets venuti dallo spazio viene svelato che in realtà è di origine extra-terrestre. (it)
- Gonzo is het blauwe vogelachtige wezen uit The Muppet Show.Gonzo is een personage dat alles doet om een beetje in beeld te komen en is dientengevolge bereid om de meest waanzinnige stunts uit te voeren, zoals geblinddoekt tapdansen op tapioca terwijl hij een piano op zijn neus balanceert (achterwaarts, 5 keer en zeer snel). Hij is altijd het slachtoffer van zijn eigen gevaarlijke stunts. Wanneer Gonzo een stunt gaat uitvoeren laat hij zichzelf altijd aankondigen als "The Great Gonzo" of "Gonzo the Great". Gonzo wordt vaak omringd door kippen, waaronder zijn grote liefde, de kip Camilla. In de film Muppets from Space blijkt dat Gonzo geen dier is, maar een ruimtewezen, wanneer zijn familie hem komt ophalen om mee naar de planeet te gaan waar hij vandaan komt. Gonzo komt er echter achter dat zijn echte vrienden zich op de planeet Aarde bevinden, en hij blijft. Gonzo keert ook steeds terug in een running gag. Hij verschijnt telkens op het einde van het introlied van "The Muppet Show". In de eerste reeks tracht hij de O van het woord "Show" te raken, maar dit mislukt steeds. Vanaf het tweede seizoen tracht hij op een trompet de eindnoot te spelen, maar ook dit geeft een onverwacht resultaat: er komt water uit de trompet, er komt een ballon uit, de trompet ontploft... Enkel in de aflevering met John Cleese speelt Gonzo de noot correct. In de twee Nederlandse versies die van de Muppets films zijn gemaakt spreekt Arjan Ederveen de stem in van Gonzo. In de Nederlandse versie van de Disney+ serie Muppets Now de special Muppets Haunted Mansion werd de stem van Gonzo ingesproken door Joost Claes. (nl)
