- Saṃsāra (Sanskrit: संसार, Pali: saṃsāra; also samsara) in Buddhism and Hinduism is the beginningless cycle of repeated birth, mundane existence and dying again. Samsara is considered to be dukkha, suffering, and in general unsatisfactory and painful, perpetuated by desire and avidya (ignorance), and the resulting karma. Rebirths occur in six realms of existence, namely three good realms (heavenly, demi-god, human) and three evil realms (animal, ghosts, hellish). Samsara ends if a person attains nirvana, the "blowing out" of the desires and the gaining of true insight into impermanence and non-self reality. (en)

- 輪迴（梵語、巴利語：संसार，羅馬化：Saṃsāra，意指“世界”），有時又被稱為三沙羅、僧娑洛、業力循環、轉世（梵語：पुनर्जन्मन्，羅馬化：Punarjanman，又譯投胎、普那遮曼）等，意即“漫無目的地漂流、流浪於世俗的循環”。通俗地講，就是生死、又生死。 輪迴的概念在婆羅門教等印度宗教都很流行，以佛學而论，众生从无始以来，因為對世間無常的真相無所了解、或因為對生命的實相不明瞭的無明，而產生種種導致不斷生死的煩惱未能斷盡，神識便輾轉生死于三界六道（有些宗派為五道）中循环往复，即“六道輪迴”，至少要修成阿羅漢，乃至成佛，否则无有脱出之期。佛教中表現輪迴運作方式的繪畫稱之為有輪，又可稱為生死輪、六道輪迴圖等。 (zh)
