- Die Sociedade Independente de Comunicação (SIC), zu Deutsch in etwa „unabhängige Kommunikationsgesellschaft“, ist eine portugiesische private Fernsehanstalt. SIC, der erste und bisher größte Privatsender in Portugal, sendet landesweit fünf TV-Programme über DVB-T. Der erste Kanal der SIC ging unter dem gleichen Namen am 6. Oktober 1992 auf Sendung und beendete damit das Monopol des portugiesischen Staatsfernsehens RTP. SIC gehört zum Medienunternehmen Impresa, geleitet vom früheren Premierminister Francisco Pinto Balsemão, zu dem auch andere Medien gehören, wie beispielsweise die Wochenzeitung Expresso. Landesweit ist der Hauptkanal SIC terrestrisch für jeden frei empfangbar. Die anderen vier SIC-Kanäle (SIC Notícias, SIC Radical, SIC Mulher und SIC International) sind lediglich per Kabel oder Satellit zu empfangen. Das Hauptprogramm des Fernsehsenders setzt sich aus portugiesischen und brasilianischen Telenovelas zusammen, zusätzlich gibt es drei Nachrichtensendungen pro Tag und bestimmte Dokumentationen etc. Außerdem werden zahlreiche amerikanische Fernsehsendungen und -serien wie CSI: Miami o. Ä. mit portugiesischem Untertitel ausgestrahlt. Von 1995 bis 2004 war SIC Marktführer in der portugiesischen Fernsehlandschaft, seitdem hat jedoch der Sender Televisão Independente (TVI) die Führung übernommen. (de)

Inizia ufficialmente le sue trasmissioni il 6 ottobre 1992 come prima emittente privata del Portogallo dopo 35 anni di monopolio della televisione statale RTP. Fondata dall'ex premier e fondatore del PSD Francisco Pinto Balsemão, SIC appartiene in maggioranza alla società portoghese , mentre tra gli altri azionisti c'è Rede Globo, che fin dalla nascita le fornisce alcune telenovelas.
