- Reining je jedna z nejdůležitějších disciplín westernového stylu ježdění na koni. Často je popisován jako westernová forma drezury, protože pro správné provedení úlohy je zapotřebí dokonalý soulad jezdce s koněm, který se musí nechat ochotně vést téměř neznatelnými pobídkami. Úkolem jezdce je předvést s koněm zadanou úlohou složenou z kruhů, přeskoků, spinů, stopů, rollbacků, couvání a prodlev. Reining je velmi dynamická disciplína plná cvalu, rychlost však musí být pod dokonalou kontrolou a nesmí být na úkor přesnosti. (cs)

Elle exige un cheval placide, avec des rênes tenues à une main et sans tension continue sur le mors (elles sont dites en « guirlande » car elles sont longues et lâches). Le quarter horse est le cheval de prédilection de cette discipline. L'association qui représente internationalement le reining est la NRHA (National Reining Horse Association). - Il reining è una disciplina dell'equitazione americana.Letteralmente tradotto significa "lavorare di redini": trae le sue origini dal lavoro con il bestiame svolto dai cowboy che utilizzavano i cavalli per radunare, muovere e contenere le mandrie di bovini nelle vaste praterie. I cavalli dovevano essere agili, atletici, docili e veloci e dovevano rispondere repentinamente ai comandi impartiti dai cavalieri tramite le redini. Con il passare degli anni i cowboy, orgogliosi dei loro cavalli ben addestrati e pronti al lavoro, iniziarono a cimentarsi in competizioni che consistevano in una serie di manovre, tra cui sliding stop e giravolte (spin).Queste esibizioni costituirono le fondamenta dello sport omonimo.
