- Třída Powerful byla třída chráněných křižníků první třídy britského královského námořnictva. Po svém dokončení to byly největší křížníky na světě. Jejich stavba byla nákladná a provozní náklady vysoké (mimo jiné kvůli velké posádce). Byly to první čtyřkomínové britské křižníky. Oba po vyřazení z první linie sloužily jako cvičné lodě. Ils étaient les plus grands de la décennie 1890, mais leur armement paraissait encore trop faible par rapport aux croiseurs russes et français de la même époque.Ils servirent au Siège de Ladysmith durant la seconde guerre des Boers et aussi à la protection des ports britanniques en mer de Chine méridionale (Singapour, Hong Kong et Weihai).Par mesure d'économie ils furent désarmés dès 1904 et servirent de transporteurs de troupe durant la première guerre mondiale. - The Powerful class were a pair of first-class protected cruisers built for the Royal Navy (RN) in the 1890s, designed to hunt down enemy commerce raiders. Both ships served on the China Station and participated in the Second Boer War of 1899–1900. Terrible went on to help suppress the Boxer Rebellion a few months later. Powerful served as the flagship of the Australia Station in 1905–1912; shortly after her return home, she became a training ship and remained in that role until she was sold for scrap in 1929. Terrible was mostly in reserve after she returned home in 1902 and was often used as an accommodation ship. During the First World War she was disarmed and made one voyage as a troop transport in 1915. The ship became a depot ship when she returned home and then became a training ship in 1918. Terrible was sold for scrap in 1932. (en)

Entrambe le navi servirono in Estremo Oriente e parteciparono alla seconda guerra boera. La fu mandata a sedare la ribellione dei Boxer pochi mesi dopo. La Powerful servì come ammiraglia in acque australiane tra il 1905 e il 1912; poco dopo essere tornata in patria divenne una nave scuola e rimase in quel ruolo fino a quando non fu venduta per essere demolita nel 1929. La Terrible fu posta in riserva al suo ritorno in patria, nel 1902, e fu spesso usata come nave caserma. Durante la prima guerra mondiale fu disarmata e svolse un viaggio come nave trasporto truppe nel 1915. La nave divenne un deposito al ritorno dal viaggio e nel 1918 divenne una nave scuola.
