- EuroVelo 12 (EV12), the North Sea Cycle Route, is a 5,942 km (3,692 mi) long-distance cycling route circuit around the coastlines of the countries that border the North Sea: these countries are (going clockwise from an arbitrary starting point of Harwich in Essex) England, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The North Sea Cycle Route was officially opened in 2001, and is an international project between the countries participating, with 68 partners in 8 countries. In 2003, the route was awarded a Guinness world record certificate confirming that the North Sea Cycle Route was the world's longest cycle route. (en)

- The North Sea Cycle route, in het Nederlands ook wel de Internationale Noordzeeroute genoemd, is een geheel bewegwijzerde fietsroute van zo'n 5932 kilometer rond de Noordzee. De route maakt deel uit van het EuroVelo netwerk van de European Cyclists' Federation, en is opgezet met financiering vanuit een Interreg-programma van de Europese Unie. Het type bewegwijzering verschilt van land tot land omdat gebruik wordt gemaakt van nationale netten van lange-afstandsfietsroutes. De route gaat door de volgende landen en gebieden:
* België. Vanaf de Panne naar Knokke (LF Kustroute). (Dit deel is later toegevoegd.)
* Nederland. Vanaf Sluis naar Bad Nieuweschans over de LF Kustroute.
* Duitsland. Van Bad Nieuweschans tot de Deense grens.
* Denemarken. Van Duitse grens bij Rudbøl via Skagen tot Grenaa over de nationale fietsroutes 1 en 5.
* Zweden. Van Varberg tot Frederikstad.
* Noorwegen. Van Frederikstad langs de kust tot Bergen over de nationale fietsroute 1. Daar sluit ze aan op EV1 - Atlantische Kustroute.
* Verenigd Koninkrijk. Shetlandeilanden, Orkney-eilanden, Schotland en dan in Engeland tot Harwich, vanwaar de veerboot naar Hoek van Holland genomen kan worden. Meestal ligt de route niet ver van de kust, maar zo af en toe (met name in Engeland) wordt de afstand tot de Noordzee behoorlijk groot. De totale afstand van een kleine 6000 kilometer is erg lang voor één fietsvakantie. Daarom zal de route of in etappes gereden worden of gedeeltelijk afgelegd worden. Voor gidsen en toelichtingen moet gebruikgemaakt worden van het materiaal dat per land beschikbaar is. In sommige gevallen kan dat er toe leiden dat het alleen beschikbaar is in de taal van dat land. De Duitse firma Esterbauer levert Duitstalige gidsen voor de route in Duitsland maar ook in andere landen (bijvoorbeeld Nederland en Denemarken). De website van de North Sea Cycle Route geeft een overzicht van beschikbare boekjes en kaarten. De stichting Europafietsers brengt elk jaar een informatiebrochure over de route uit. (nl)
