Mohamed Hussein Tantawi Soliman is a Field Marshal and the current Egyptian minister of defense and military production and commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces. Tantawi received his commission on 1 April 1956 serving in the infantry, and he has participated in the wars of 1956, 1967, and 1973. He has held various commands and been assigned as military attaché to Pakistan. Tantawi became minister of defense and military production and commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces in 1991 following the dismissal of Lt.
