- The Military Order of Italy (Italian: Ordine Militare d'Italia) is the highest military order of the Italian Republic and the former Kingdom of Italy. It was founded as the Military Order of Savoy, a national order by the King of Sardinia, Vittorio Emanuele I, Duke of Savoy in 1815. The order is awarded in five degrees for distinguished wartime conduct of units of the armed forces or individual personnel that has "proven expertise, a sense of responsibility and valour." The order was continued on the unification of Italy in 1861 and was revived, under its new name, following the foundation of the Republic in 1946. It is bestowed by decree of the President of the Italian Republic, head of the order, on the recommendation of the Minister of Defence. (en)

Deze Ridderorde was een kopie van de Orde van Maria Theresia want ook zij beloont officieren voor "dappere daden die men ook had kunnen nalaten". Het Kapittel moest nauwkeurig nagaan of de voorgedragen officieren tijdens een veldslag inderdaad meer dan hun plicht hadden gedaan. (nl)

- A Ordem Militar da Itália é a Ordem militar mais alta da Itália. Foi criada como Ordem Militar de Saboia, uma ordem nacional, pelo rei da Sardenha, Vítor Emanuel I, Duque de Saboia, em 1815. A ordem é concedida em cinco graus, por conduta distinta em tempo de guerra às unidades das forças armadas ou a título individual a algum militar por "perícia, responsabilidade e valor". A Ordem continuou após a unificação de Itália em 1861, e foi retomada, sob seu novo nome, após a fundação da República em 1946. É concedida por decreto do Presidente da República Italiana , chefe da Ordem, por recomendação do Ministro da Defesa.
